Les albums de Post Hardcore Suisses se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas… Après m’être a moitié ennuyé avec le dernier LP de WHEN ICARUS FALLS, voici que je tombe presque sur une épiphanie musicale bruitiste avec COILGUNS.
Il faut dire que cet EP est tout ce qu’on peut attendre d’un style quasi usé jusqu’à la corde de mi… En admettant bien sur que COILGUNS ne se cantonne qu’à celui-ci, ce qui… N’est pas le cas !!!
Au premier abord, ça sonne comme une virée d’UNSANE chez BOTCH. C’est abrasif au possible, avec un son de basse qui ferait rougir Shane Embury lui-même, une batterie incapable de se caler sur un rythme, et un évadé d’Hellraiser au chant… Joli programme…
Mais avouez que des cénobytes qui piquent une tête dans une piscine d’acide, c’est quand même alléchant…
Résumons l’affaire. En seulement six morceaux, les Suisses nous collent un bon coup de boule dans le pif, et font gicler un sang rouge vif, dont la vue doit certainement les exciter. Stadia Rods, est tout, tout le temps, partout. C’est malsain, c’est puissant, c’est hypnotique, ça met mal à l’aise et pourtant, ça donne envie de remettre le couvert à peine achevé. Du masochisme ?
Peut être.
Toujours est-il que de l’intro ébouriffante « Parkensine » au final étourdissant de « The Shuftan Process Part II », on reste le souffle coupé, incapable de réagir devant telle agression.
Alors bien sur, on a déjà entendu ça… Ailleurs, en mieux peut être, mais je ne suis même pas sur…
Il y a parfois du DILLINGER la dessous, surtout sur « The Shuftan Process Part I », qui rappelle les premiers efforts des ricains, du UNSANE comme je l’ai déjà précisé, pour le côté rugueux des guitares et le nihilisme du chant, et bien sur du NEUROSIS, pour ces longues digressions lentes, comme celles qui animent les diptyques « Zoetropist » et « The Shuftan Process », qui parfois prennent même des allures d’hommage au séminal « I Want You » de feu John Lennon… Et puis, cette façon de vous planter un clou dans la peau, et de l’enfoncer, d’une manière aléatoire, parfois avec insistance, parfois lentement, régulièrement, c’est assez unique comme torture auditive…
La cohérence de l’ensemble peut même parfois faire penser à COMITY, spécialement dans cette volonté de perturber l’auditeur à grands coups de changements rythmiques, qui soudain retrouvent une allure très lourde, avant de repartir de plus belle, accompagnés par un chant habité, voire possédé selon les passages. Depuis le split avec KUNZ, COILGUNS a trouvé une recette fiable, certes moins extravagante, mais qui permet aux musiciens d’assurer une homogénéité à leur EP, qui au final, se suit comme un cauchemar éveillé. Et même si « Zoetropist » et « TheShuftan Process » se détachent du lot par leur construction à tiroir et leur long final résonnant comme un mantra de la douleur, les pièces uniques s’intègrent parfaitement à l’ensemble, comme en témoigne le premier morceau, « Parkensine », véritable condensé d’énergie qui dès le départ situe les débats sur le terrain de la souffrance.
Certes, Stadia Rods n’est pas le genre de CD qu’on met dans sa platine pour faire découvrir aux potes « un truc sympa ». Car COILGUNS n’a rien de sympa.
Il n’empêche que sa musique, si elle ne bousculera pas l’ordre établi, à de quoi séduire tous les amateurs de sensations fortes, de riffs écorchés, de chant venu de l’au delà, et de guitares incendiaires.
A écouter impérativement. A condition de vous sentir en paix avec vous-même.
