Si vous l’acceptez, le défi consistera à proposer un titre de douze minutes exactement. C’est un challenge sérieux, mais vous êtes des adversaires de valeur, et vous connaissez le terrain. Aucun avantage, jouez avec vos armes, inutile de dégainer le premier, car le vainqueur ne sera pas celui qui a tiré le plus vite, mais le plus précisément.

Alors allez-y.
Deux balles dans le barillet. Deux concurrents, un univers, un vecteur commun. La violence sourde.
A gauche, les français de PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND, déjà responsables d’un premier LP il y a quatre ans, l’excellent The Vulture Riot.
A droite, les Suisses de CORTEZ. Dernière sortie en 2005.
En gros, deux équipes qui prennent leur temps et qui distillent les sorties comme les notes. Avec parcimonie.
Et qui reviennent de la façon la plus économique qui soit. Un Split 10’. Pas mal, comme à la grande époque du Grind. Après tout, lorsque tout est dit sur douze minutes, inutile d’en rajouter.
Les PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND sur ce Split, jouent la carte de la nouveauté pesante. Proche des épisodes les plus poisseux et bruitistes de leur premier effort, « I.W.W.O.Y.T.W.Y.W.O.M. » est lourd, très lourd…Noisy Sludge ? Pas terrible je vous le concède, mais je n’ai rien trouvé d’autre. Ca commence comme une longue litanie, une plainte inhumaine, et puis le chaos intervient, martelé par une batterie plombée. Les guitares sont toujours aussi sourdes, le chant écorché, les breaks fulgurants, en gros tout est là…Sans doute moins core que leur album de 2008, plus pesé, plus lesté aussi, il ne préfigure pas d’une révolution à venir, mais d’un changement dans la continuité. Et j’apprécie.
Tout aussi torturés, les Suisses de CORTEZ empruntent le même chemin rocailleux, tout en se permettant d’y marcher avec de meilleures chaussures. C’est certes toujours aussi bruitiste, mais le faux rythme constant insuffle à « A.F.D.N.T.E.D.E.V.L.S. » une vitalité indéniable qui leur permet d’affirmer leurs différences. On admettra que les points communs avec les français sont légion, mais les guitares sont plus abrasives, et s’autorisent quelques incursions faussement mélodiques assez plaisantes. Et si PLEBEIAN a opté pour le pilonnage massif, CORTEZ distille les ambiances, les rythmes et digresse souvent sur le thème central. Un peu plus d’air donc…
Finalement, ce format est assez bien vu. Un morceau par groupe, une durée imposée qui permet de développer le propos, c’est plaisant.
Après…Un morceau par groupe après respectivement quatre et sept ans de silence, c’est quand même assez maigre…
