A l’instar de NECROBLASPHEME, SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION, UNFRAGMENT, NO RETURN ou INHUMATE, CARNAL LUST fait partie de ces groupes qu’on suit avec attention chez Metal-Impact. Alors rien de plus normal finalement que de consacrer quelques lignes à la dernière sortie des Parisiens, j’ai nommé The Hate Complete, le bienheureux. Et nous aussi, nous pouvons être bien heureux, car avec CARNAL LUST, pas de compromis, pas de fanfreluches, pas de trucages bidons, que ce soit avec le Whore Of Violence de 2003 ou le Dawn Of The Hatred de 2008, c’est à chaque fois une claque dans ta gueule. Il n’y avait aucune raison pour que ça change. Ça tombe bien, ça n’a pas changé ! Malgré un effectif encore une fois remanié avec les arrivées récentes de Kyrcnos Infernos à la basse et de Rémy à la guitare (soit 40% du line-up !), les Français restent fidèles à leur ligne de conduite, emmenés par un L. Chuck D. au top de sa forme et génial géniteur de ce concept-album, qui tournera autour de croyances et de rituels, enveloppés dans un doux cocon de schizophrénie.
Qu’on soit très clair, le Death Metal de CARNAL LUST n’est pas facile d’accès. Il ne répond pas aux standards du genre, ne se laisse enfermer dans aucune petite boite étiquetée, refuse les cadenas stylistiques. Il est une bête imprévisible, qui cache des griffes acérées et un paquet de mauvaises intentions sous son pelage angora. Il n’y a pas un responsable à cette tuerie, il y en a cinq ! Les t-shirts maculés d’hémoglobine arborés sur leurs photos promos, c’est le sang des innocents. Tout ce qu’on voulait, c’était passer un bon moment. Non. Parce qu’il est infiniment complexe et torturé, cet album est un casse-tête. Pour ne rien arranger à l’affaire, les noms des chansons sont inspirés de locutions latines. C’est dire si le concept revêt une symbolique toute particulière. Il parait que la meilleure défense, c’est l’attaque. Alors dans ce cas CARNAL LUST est le Sergio Ramos du Death Metal, notamment à cause de « Sepulcrum », une entrée en matière qui après deux minutes de flottement, vous saute à la gorge de façon très méthodique. Il n’y a pas encore de démonstration de technique, d’ultra-bestialité, de violence anarchique. Il y a simplement un riff, complètement tordu et par-dessus, les vocaux improbables de L. Chuck D. qui vous inondent l’esprit. Au fil du temps, l’horizon s’élargit, gagne en clarté et les desseins insidieux du combo apparaissent en surbrillance. Le déroulement limpide de The Hate Complete est sans ambigüité. Non seulement, grâce à sa force de frappe et son efficacité redoutable, cet album est le meilleur jamais composé par CARNAL LUST, mais en plus, sa diversité, qu’elle soit rythmique ou vocale, le propulse assurément parmi les sorties Death Metal françaises les plus réussies de l’année. A ses côtés, on retrouvera un certain... Inner Madness de NO RETURN ! Tiens, tiens, L. Chuck D. serait-il en train de devenir la nouvelle coqueluche du style ? Assurément non et nul doute qu’il rejetterait poliment cette hypothèse, mais force est de constater qu’après les expérimentations vocales délirantes entendues sur Inner Madness, le monsieur continue de se faire plaisir ici avec un mélange habile de chant clair, de grognements, de screams et de voix caverneuses. On surprendra même un petit faible pour les sorties théâtrales qui ne seront pas sans rappeler le grand ICS Vortex et ses frasques vocales. J’en veux pour preuve « Vixit » qui pousse le bouchon très loin, dans les aigus notamment. Pour terminer, sachez également que CARNAL LUST reprend en bout de course le « Dreaming In Red » de DISMEMBER, qui à mon avis représente davantage un hommage poignant à une formation récemment démembrée qu’une expérience purement artistique.
Mais peu importe finalement la vraie signification de cette reprise, qui n’est qu’un détail de cinq minutes qui achève de fort belle manière une œuvre longue d’une heure. The Hate Complete a d’autres atouts. Celui notamment de faire ressurgir toute la puissance d’un groupe dont on entend parler qu’épisodiquement. Cet album touffu est un coup de poignard donné par un colosse à une âme perdue. Il est la domination d’une force psychique exceptionnelle sur des esprits faibles. Il est un harcèlement moral. Il est à l’image de la société actuelle. Ubi maior, minor cessat.
