Derrière ce nom insipide se cache la révélation du moment. HORIZON nous offre une heure de bonheur, tout simplement.
Le style du groupe est difficile à définir, même s’il est impossible de parler d’innovation. Le fond musical est très mélodique mais il est couvert par des riffs omniprésents dont la puissance nous saute au visage. C’est un peu à ça que ressemblerait TEN si Gary Hugues se faisait greffer les couilles de Kerry King ! La guitare est prépondérante et bénéficie d’un son absolument énorme avec une alternance de gros riffs et de sifflements d’harmoniques jouissifs. La maîtrise du genre est proche de celle de Zakk Wylde !
Le seul défaut est la production qui n’est pas parfaite. A cela deux raisons possibles : le manque de moyens et/ou de temps. Mais peut être aussi un motif plus pernicieux : les membres du groupes ont réalisé à quel point le son de guitare et la qualité de son interprétation étaient des atouts et ils l’ont mixée très en avant au détriment du chant. Du coup nous sommes accrochés par les riffs et passons à côtés du chant. Il aurait peut-être été possible de conserver l’avantage en rééquilibrant le chant mais en limitant les parties chantées au profit des passages instrumentaux. Car Patrick Hemer, le talentueux guitariste, est également chanteur et sa voix mérite, elle aussi, d’être très présente.
Mais n’accordons pas trop d’importance à cet aspect de l’album, ce serait risquer de passer à côté d’un bon moment de Metal.
Après avoir évoqué les riffs (qui mériteraient un paragraphe à eux seuls), il ne faut pas oublier les solos. Si Patrick Hemer est un excellent guitariste rythmique, c’est aussi un virtuose de premier ordre. Ses solos sont un peu démonstratifs mais – miracle – il ne sont pas saoulant ! Ainsi l’instrumental “The Black Mask” est une sorte de “Mr. Scary” revu par Jason Becker !
Les titres tels que “Backstabber” ou “Hell Or High Water” se retiennent immédiatement et il est difficile de ne pas vouloir les écouter en boucle. Puis tout les autres titres s’imposent et deviennent inévitables.
On pourrait croire que Patrick Hemer est un ami à moi ! Mais pour en dire du bien, j’ai juste écouté son album.
