A Bruxelles, on connaît tous le fameux Manneken-Pis qui urine joyeusement sur les hordes de touristes qui gravitent près de la Grand-Place. Mais dans le genre « statue malintentionnée », celle qui orne la pochette du premier album des bruxellois de HUMATRONIC n’est pas mal non plus. Justement, HUMATRONIC… Pas besoin d’un Bac +5 pour comprendre le néologisme, fornication singulière entre l’humain et l’électronique. D’ailleurs si vous y prêtez attention, ce subtil détail vous en dira long, très long sur les intentions d’un groupe qui ne jure que par les atmosphères de science-fiction et les ambiances futuristes glaçantes. A la seule lecture de ces quelques attributs, comment ne pas avoir en tête le début de carrière plus que prometteur des suisses de SYBREED, et surtout, toutes ces promesses non-tenues ? Le point positif dans ce rapprochement qui n’a pour fondement que l’intuition, c’est que tout au long de Structures, les belges nous apporteront les éléments nécessaires pour annihiler l’idée d’une quelconque comparaison.
Et puisqu’il vaut mieux prévenir que guérir, j’annonce de suite que ceux qui fustigent les apports artificiels tels que claviers et samples pour leur côté déshumanisé feraient mieux de sortir les antibios. Construite d’un Metal hargneux et novateur, ruisselante de sueur et pétillante d’ingéniosité, cette musique torturée rivalise d’envie. Plus important encore, cette formation n’a jamais aussi bien porté son nom. L’équilibre entre la base métallique, très rude et granuleuse et les programmations sophistiquées est remarquable. HUMATRONIC n’a aucun problème pour emmener l’auditeur par la main dans son univers tapissé de tôle où soufflent des vents polaires. A part l’intro, rien de tout ça n’est aseptisé. Les belges sont francs du collier et généreux dans leur musique, n’hésitant jamais à sortir des lignes de guitare plaintives et coupantes qui font écho aux cris, chuchotements et éclats de voix de Mathieu. Paradoxalement, même si certaines ambiances minimalistes font froid dans le dos (« Sables Fertiles »), on se sent bien à l’intérieur de cet album qui laisse transparaitre beaucoup de cohérence. Au niveau de la technique pure, c’est pas la panacée mais ces mectons n’en ont pas besoin pour sublimer un Metal moderne qui tire régulièrement vers les longueurs du Post-Hardcore. HUMATRONIC évite aussi le piège de tomber dans l’intellectualisme à deux balles en abusant d’expérimentations inutiles. Du coup, c’est une agréable sensation de simplicité qui se dégage de cette galette harmonieuse. Quelques coups de génies éclatent, tel un feu de Bengale au beau milieu de l’océan. C’est le cas de « Demiurge », particulièrement appréciée ici pour sa puissance robotique singulière, la conclusion hachée-menue de « Chairs Neuves » ou l’incroyable densité que dégage « Limbes » au travers d’un riffing éléphantesque pour ensuite s’écraser comme une fiente dans des galaxies autrement plus chaotiques et lugubres. A noter également que HUMATRONIC peut se vanter de textes en bon français et que ces quelques mots sont lancinants car admirablement bien apposés à la musique.
Ce Structures est définitivement un disque convaincant et très bien léché. J’ai été moi-même étonné de constater que ces belges n’accusent de ressemblances avec personne, preuve s’il en est que leur empreinte musicale est intègre. C’est en somme le plus beau compliment que je puisse leur faire, car il ouvre la porte à des tas de théories. Parmi les plus plausibles, mon petit doigt me dit qu’il n’est pas inimaginable que je cite à l’avenir HUMATRONIC dans mes papiers comme étant une référence pour toutes ces formations qui cherchent un compromis intelligent entre l’humain et la machine.
