Décidemment, REVOCATION gravit les échelons à toute vitesse. Ce jeune trio formé en 2006 avait signé avec Existence Is Futile (2009) un deuxième album particulièrement abouti. Ce qui lui a permis d’enchainer avec une tournée internationale, en compagnie de groupes comme DYING FETUS ou BEHEMOTH. Les voilà déjà de retour avec un nouvel opus qui devrait leur permettre d’acquérir encore plus de notoriété.
En premier lieu, le combo a décidé de brouiller un peu les cartes en élargissant encore le spectre de ses influences. Ce Chaos Of Forms va donc plus loin dans le mélange des genres que son prédécesseur, comme en attestent ces breaks jazzy que l’on retrouve tout au long du disque. Malheureusement, REVOCATION y perd légèrement en cohérence, et on s’égare parfois dans tous ces changements de registre. De plus, certaines innovations sont plutôt dispensables, comme les quelques tentatives de chant clair pas vraiment convaincantes (« Cradle Robber »). Le groupe cède également à la facilité sur « No Funeral », avec des descentes de manche tapageuses à la DRAGONFORCE un peu hors de propos.
Voilà pour les légers défauts, parce que pour le reste on retrouve tous les éléments qui avaient fait la réussite d’Existence Is Futile. Attendez vous donc à un nouvel étalage de puissance de feu, de groove, de mélodies saisissantes et de virtuosité. En effet le niveau technique de la bande est toujours aussi impressionnant, à l’image des solos étincelants de David Davidson (guitare).
Dés « Cretin », le combo assène un déluge de riffs de haute volée, de changements de rythmes et d’accélérations en blast beats fulgurantes. Le tout s’enchaine à toute allure, et ce morceau d’ouverture est un des plus accrocheurs jamais composés par le trio. L’album contient son lot de moments de grâce, comme « Harlot », qui met à l’honneur la section rythmique avec son break groovy. On retiendra également « The Watchers » et son final complètement barré à l’orgue Hammond. Enfin, un autre sommet est atteint avec « Conjuring The Cataclysm », un titre à l’ambiance très Black Metal, marqué des parties mélodiques glaciales et sublimes.
Ainsi, bien que plus décousu et moins évident que son prédécesseur, Chaos Of Forms se révèle être un excellent album. REVOCATION a encore complexifié le propos, tout en conservant une certaine efficacité, et s’impose définitivement comme une formation à suivre.
