Un album du groupe finlandais OCTOBER FALLS ne peut être réduit au simple mot « disque ».
Il symbolise beaucoup plus que ça.
C’est une évasion, un retour aux sources, l’Appel de la Forêt version Metal.
Celui qui s’aventure à poser une oreille sur un titre d’OCTOBER FALLS se retrouve en totale osmose avec la nature, la faune sauvage, les inquiétants yeux jaunes du loup qui brillent dans la nuit, le froid qui glace le sang, le vent hurlant fissuré par les arbres et leurs branches nues. Et très vite, il demeure une sorte de dépendance, comme la satisfaction jouissive d’avoir redécouvert cet instinct primitif et bestial qui sommeille en chaque être humain.
Ainsi, pour parfaire la beauté très palpable de The Womb Of Primordial Nature, OCTOBER FALLS décline un peu plus son amour pour le Black Pagan épique avec A Collapse Of Faith. Ce troisième album, composé là aussi intégralement par Mikko Lehto (guitares et chants), voit son leader affiner encore et encore le style OCTOBER FALLS, comme l’irrésistible union de la beauté et de la cruauté.
En à peine 3 titres, mais dont les deux premiers excèdent quand même les 10 minutes, l’immersion bestiale est profonde et totale. Ceux-là même qui ne peuvent s’acclimater à toute sorte de musique brutale ou hors norme ne pourraient rester indifférents à OCTOBER FALLS. Les premières notes arrivent, de simples arpèges en acoustique, et le charme opère tout de suite. Elles introduisent progressivement le voyageur dans ce monde à la fois inconnu et familier, puis la douceur fait place à la puissance et là, c’est la révélation.
Entre moments de fureur répétés à outrance et accalmies traîtresses, entre une batterie tribale et des guitares souvent très mélodiques, on pense souvent aux références du genre, de celles qui mêlent habilement Black Metal, Pagan Metal, Folk Metal, sans établir de frontière bien définie, en se laissant guider par la flamme. Et quand « A Collapse Of Faith – Part II » se déroule sur un rythme plus soutenu que la partie précédente, c’est pourtant un modeste et intimiste air de piano qui clôture les débats.
Car OCTOBER FALLS, malgré une mystérieuse sauvagerie bien assumée, a quand même quelque chose de tristement mélancolique. OCTOBER FALLS vient de Finlande et ceci explique cela. « La Beauté n’est qu’un piège tendu par la Nature à la Raison », disait Voltaire. Laissez-vous tomber dans ce piège si attirant … Vous ne regretterez jamais d’être revenu aux fondements mêmes de votre farouche existence.
