Voici donc l’album tant attendu de ce fameux revival band Brésilien qui alimente le buzz depuis des semaines. Pour ceux qui ignoreraient les faits, MUSICA DIABLO est un side-project monté par Andre NM (du combo NITROMINDS) avec son pote Derrick Green (Hum… Est-il besoin de le présenter ?), destiné à assouvir leur soif de Thrash Metal de tradition, brésilienne bien sur.
Alors, si d’origine le gang fut monté sous de bien modestes aspirations, et notamment celle de se faire plaisir, il convient donc de traiter cet album éponyme pour ce qu’il représente vraiment, une récréation, une petite faveur rafraîchissante que se sont offerte quatre musiciens un brin nostalgiques.
Musica Diablo n’est pas l’épiphanie musicale extrême que vous seriez en droit d’attendre. Au contraire de WARBRINGER qui a su transcender les racines plantées par ses aînés, ou MUNICIPAL WASTE qui a osé exploser le côté gentiment paillard du style, MUSICA DIABLO se contente d’une sage relecture, assez furieuse au demeurant, et à choisi l’optique « brazil » ultra rapide que l’on pouvait trouver sur certains albums d’OVERDOSE ou quelques morceaux de RATOS DE PORAO.
Au niveau du format, onze titres courts pour à peine plus d’une demi heure, une production béton, on reste dans les standards contemporains du genre.
Au niveau des compos, pas de surprise, les riffs et tempi sont rapides, très parfois (« Sacrifice » qui tire sur le hard-core, voire le SEPULTURA de Bestial Devastation, même constat pour le mortel « Live To Buy », qui distille allègrement différentes vitesses de croisière), le chant est plus vindicatif que réellement sourd, dans le plus pur style de Derrick, mais heureusement, MUSICA DIABLO ne s’est pas contenté d’assommer pour le simple bonheur de foutre une calotte, et s’autorise parfois des incartades Heavy du plus bel effet (Le monstrueux « Work Out » et sa cassure mémorable), voire des syncopes en contretemps tirant sur un MORTAL SIN des meilleurs jours (« Lifeless »). La simplicité Core fait parfois aussi merveille (Les deux minutes chrono de « In The Name Of Greed »), mais au final, la vitesse d’exécution remporte la palme d’une longue tête (le triptyque final et imparable « The Flame Of Anger », « Twisted Hate », et « The Rack », soit plus de neuf minutes de raclage de cervelle).
Il est évident après écoute que Musica Diablo ne restera pas dans les annales du Thrash, genre déjà fort encombré d’incunables. Mais il serait dommage de bouder un album fort bien joué, avec une hargne indéniable, et qui procure pas mal de sensations fortes. On sent d’ailleurs au détour des sillons un Derrick vraiment investi dans sa mission, ce qui n’est pas toujours le cas avec son illustre combo.
Alors, il ne revient qu’à vous de jeter une oreille ou deux sur cet effort pour vous offrir une demi heure de brutalité intense, et qui, par petites touches, nous ramène en plein cœur de la fin des 80’s, et de tous ces groupes revanchards qui ne souhaitaient qu’une chose, proposer un bordel organisé et intelligent.
Et puis, avouons le aussi, ça fait quand même du bien de se défouler et d’entendre hurler les voisins !
