Voici une nouvelle preuve de la bonne santé de la scène métallique française. Formé de musiciens Lillois, EMERGENCY BLOODSHED sort en ce début d’année 2011 un nouvel EP, après leur premier longue durée, publié en 2009, le déjà remarqué Tales Of Ordinary Violence.
La bonne impression laissée par cet album se confirme à l’écoute de Wage Slavery, qui gomme les petites imperfections du passé pour confirmer le potentiel énorme du combo.
On leur reprochait souvent le côté trop « homogène » de leur travail, avec des morceaux certes très solides, mais parfois répétitifs, gageons qu’avec ses vingt six minutes au compteur, le petit dernier contribuera à rétablir l’équilibre.
EMERGENCY BLOODSHED, c’est un peu un match de catch sévèrement burné entre FEAR FACTORY et BIOHAZARD.
Des premiers, ils ont emprunté les arrangements, la surface synthétique et les samples industriels froids. Des seconds, la rage, les riffs sauvages et la brutalité torride.
Alors bien sur, les morceaux virils se succèdent, et on sent bien l’impact que ceux-ci peuvent avoir sur scène, car l’écoute est très vivante, et, je dirais même, « impliquante » si vous me pardonnez ce néologisme. Mais la force du groupe est de ne pas négliger les ambiances, comme le prouve le très lourd et claustrophobique « Should Something More Be Said ? ».
De plus, l’utilisation des samples n’a rien d’un gimmick, avec en appui le très malin « Frustration Fields », meilleure compo de cet EP selon votre serviteur. La puissance du chant de Fab est lourdement mise en valeur par un tissu d’arrangements technoïdes, et chaque son, chaque loop à son importance.
Autre moment fort empli de haine, « We Broke The System Down » fait preuve d’une incroyable maturité de composition, et d’une interprétation sans faille. Louchant parfois vers les danois de MNEMIC, ce morceau s’impose sur la durée, et cumule les breaks futés incrustant un caractère épique à une carapace terriblement concrète et réaliste.
On peut même parfois renifler l’odeur de NEUROSIS, tant le timbre de Fab est similaire à celui de Scott Kelly sur certaines digressions.
Somme toute, Wage Slavery peut être considéré comme une réussite totale, et je dirais même qu’on était en droit d’en attendre un peu plus, tant les vingt six minutes s’écoulent rapidement et nous portent de bout en bout. J’attends avec impatience le prochain LP du groupe, et je ne saurais trop vous encourager à jeter une oreille sur EMERGENCY BLOODSHED, et à l’y laisser un bon petit moment.
