Quand je me lance dans l’écoute d’un album typé Metal Médiéval, j’attends y retrouver deux choses essentielles : du Metal et du Médiéval. Pour le coup, j’ai été déçu. Parce que le neuvième album de SCHELMISH, Die Hässlichen Kinder, navigue plus dans une vague Punk Rock alliée à un côté celtisant. Ça, c’est pour le côté qui ressortira le plus de l’album (« Boulevard » où DIE TOTEN HOSEN ne sont pas bien loin, « Die Hässlichen Kinder » qui donne son titre à l’album et qui offre un Punk Rock de base peu intéressant ou « Blähsucht », un énième titre Punk bateau). Pourtant, quand on tient le coup et qu’on gratte entre les morceaux, on découvre des titres très intéressants. Par exemple « For The Clansmen », une instrumentale, où le côté celtique ressort vraiment très bien et ne tombe pas comme un cheveu sur la soupe pendant le refrain et qui nous emmène dans des plaines frappées par le vent. Ce morceau tribal reste un des moments les plus intéressants de cet opus pour qui aime ce genre de sonorités. Après, on a aussi le titre d’ouverture, « Bist Du Bereit », pesant avec une voix (allemande) qui ne peut que faire penser à un certain Till. Même si ce titre n’est pas très violent, qu’il peut paraître étrange en introduction d’un album, il est bon et partage avec « Goresh » un sample organique appréciable pour qui sait aimer les mélanges de l’électronique et de l’amplifié. Ces deux samples peuvent faire penser à QNTAL dans l’esprit Electro Médiéval, mais il ne faut pas oblitérer l’accent Metal de SCHELMISH qui sait quand même se montrer. Par exemple sur « Mosaik », titre monotone mais puissant et qui aurait dû clôturer l’album à la place du plat « Für Euch ». J’ai oublié de parler de la ballade de l’album (quatorze titres, ça oblige à une ballade, non ?), « Sag Nur Ein Wort ». Contrairement à ce qu’on pourrait croire, il ne fait pas partie des morceaux dispensables de l’album.
Le groupe est capable de nous pondre des titres plus qu’intéressants, mais ils les intercalent entre deux titres de Punk Rock qui, même s’ils sont toujours une cornemuse ou un instrument dans le genre derrière, sont plutôt bateau voire irritants. Et c’est bien dommage. Pour ma part, je ne garderai en mémoire qu’une petite moitié d’album, histoire de ne pas m’en aller sur un trop mauvais ressenti.
