Dans les années 80, les potes se foutaient tous de moi parce que j’étais fan de RATT. J’avais droit aux pires quolibets, aux blagues vaseuses à peine dignes d’une rhétorique d’hydrocéphale. « Mais c’est pas vrai, y’a que dalle dans RATT, c’est toujours pareil ! ».
Certes, RATT n’a jamais inventé la poudre et encore moins le blush, qu’ils ont piqué à Nikki SIXX. Mais j’ai toujours trouvé dans leur musique de quoi m’enthousiasmer sans limite. Un refrain imparable (« Body Talk », « Never Use Love », « Dance », etc…), un riff couillu, une rythmique moussue.
Il faut dire que le combo avait l’attitude. Crosby et DeMartini sexy, Croucier et Blotzer plus torrides que ta sœur, et un Pearcy beaucoup.
Enfin bref, jusqu’à la presque faute de frappe de Reach For The Sky, j’étais client. Depuis la reformation, il y a plus de 11 ans, un peu moins. Je n’ai pas franchement changé d’avis à l’écoute de ce Infestation.
Non qu’il soit moisi, ne rêvons pas, avec des mecs de ce calibre on ne risque pas de faire venir le joueur de flûte à Hamelin, pour ramener les rats vers les égouts, mais il manque franchement quelque chose.
A en lire les déclarations du gang sur leur site officiel, ils auraient souhaité revenir aux racines post Out Of The Cellar, comme s’ils n’avaient jamais enregistré Invasion Of Your Privacy, leur pourtant chef d’œuvre.
Désolé de vous décevoir les gars, mais vous n’avez jamais été Heavy, mais foncièrement Rock.
Et comme introduction, le très plat « Eat Me Up Alive » donne envie d’ajouter un peu de poivre avant la dégustation.
Certes le DeMartini est en place, et le beat est solide, mais ça sent le réchauffé même dans la pièce d’à côté.
« Best Of Me » mériterait presque son titre tant elle renoue avec les riffs bien léchés de Dancing Undercover. Même le refrain se hisse vers les hauteurs d’antan. Mais non, Stephen a perdu cette perversité dans sa voix, et c’est là que le bât blesse. Tu caresses trop dans le sens du poil dude !
« A Little Too Much » ? Alors là, vous plaisantez les gars ! Heureusement que juste après, vous enchaînez avec « Look Out Below » qui nous ramène vite vers « Slip Of The Lip » et son tempo chaloupé à la AEROSMITH.
« Last Call » c’est un peu MOTORHEAD vs VAN HALEN, pas désagréable avec son petit côté dragueur, mais « Lost Weekend », c’est enfin du grand RATT, avec la bouche toujours ouverte pour vociférer quelques invectives machistes à la gent féminine. C’est up tempo, roublard, et le refrain est enfin fédérateur. Il était temps !
« As Good As It Gets », vous l’avez piquée à SAXON, c’est ça ? Non sérieux, elle est pénible. « Garden Of Eden » est anecdotique, mais « Take A Big Bite » est une bombe baby ! Ca pulse, ça joue libre, et sieur Piercy refait enfin peur aux jeunes filles en fleur.
La fausse ballade « Take Me Home » est une sucrerie à la cannelle qu’on apprécie amère. Un peu soft, mais rafraîchissante.
« Don’t Let Go » achève l’album d’une touche d’insouciance qu’on aurait beau jeu d’apprécier en ces temps de rigueur.
Mais bon, il faut bien résumer et faire un constat. Mes potes n’ont plus aucune raison de se foutre de moi, je ne suis plus fan de RATT.
Ok, Infestation fait la nique à bon nombre de groupes qui n’ont pas la moitié du quart de l’aisance de RATT. Mais s’il sonne très actuel, il manque ce je ne sais quoi qui rendait leurs premiers méfaits attachants.
La niaque du débutant peut être.
Un petit tour par la cave les mecs ?
