Lorsque les groupes refusent le circuit habituel de distribution, la sortie d’un album prend parfois des allures de chemin de croix. Prenez KUBLA KHAN par exemple (Rien à voir avec le KUBLAI KHAN des années 80 avec un ancien guitariste de MEGADETH), qui ont mis sept ans à pouvoir concrétiser leurs visions musicales sur galette d’argent, je suis sur qu’ils en auraient de bonnes à vous raconter !
Le trio ibérique se refuse donc à tout compromis, et s’assure de ce fait une totale indépendance, dont découle inévitablement une foi absolue en leurs possibilités, ce qui force le respect.
Mais qu’en est-il de Six Sex Six, musicalement parlant ? Car si la démarche est louable, est ce pour autant que KUBLA KHAN a de quoi intéresser l’auditeur éventuel ?
Le sentiment résultant de plusieurs écoutes successives est des plus mitigé, malheureusement. Certes, le climat est poisseux, le chant investi et mordant, et le rythme tantôt pesant, tantôt épileptique. On pense à certains combo illustres d’une époque lointaine, tels ACID BATH, VITAL REMAINS, ou encore DORSAL ATLANTICA, sans le brio ou le professionnalisme.
Pourtant, certaines idées laissent présager d’une audace de composition indéniable, qui aurait gagnée à être développée. En témoigne l’intro aux influences indiennes de « Agrodeath », la ligne de basse tout en tapping de « Storm From The Past », sur fond de solo inspiré, ou la fureur toute en tension contrôlée de « Six Sex Six » qui n’aurait pas dépareillé sur le Schizophrenia de SEPULTURA.
Le reste de l’album tombe trop souvent dans les travers d’une espèce d’hybride entre Speedcore et Death light, assez monotone, bien que la durée de l’album reste fort raisonnable.
Mais ne soyons pas grincheux, et admettons que si votre seul but et de vous éclater la tête pour pas cher (l’album est vendu 5 euros, comme quoi, en évitant les maisons de disques, on peut proposer un produit pour une somme très raisonnable !), Six Sex Six remplira à merveille cette mission.
Mais pour envisager une carrière durable, il faudra travailler encore un peu l’inspiration et la méthode, et surtout, être moins frileux dans la prise de risques, surtout lorsque l’on est un instrumentiste capable !
