Commençons d’abord par le cd lui-même, non pas le contenu mais le contenant. En effet, sur cet EP, initialement sorti sous forme de démo en 2007, seule la partie gravée est opaque, à l’image d’un ciel constellé reproduit sur le disque cuivré de Nebra, le reste du cd étant transparent : une démarche esthétique et originale qui méritait bien une mention spéciale. Intéressons-nous maintenant au contenu. Savoir que les deux guitaristes de la formation suisse officient également dans MUMAKIL et KNUT ne donne pas la meilleure des indications quant au style pratiqué par NEBRA, car les Genevois pratiquent un Metal instrumental, plus lourd qu’agressif, plus accès groove que déjanté. Ne vous attendez donc pas particulièrement à un voyage aux sonorités aériennes, pour ne pas dire spatiales et psychédéliques. Avec Sky Disk, l’auditeur ne navigue pas dans l’univers d’un 2001, l’Odyssée de l’espace, mais scrute bien plutôt de la Terre, et l’on sent ces forces chtoniennes de la gravité à l’œuvre dans les rythmiques, un au-delà qui l’entoure, qui l’attire mais qui l’inquiète aussi. Cet espace, ce vide intersidéral se fait étrangement presque massif. Le style est maîtrisé, presque trop : le tout manque de prise de risque et se révèle parfois même répétitif. Avec ses 19 petites minutes, Sky Disk laisse un peu sur sa faim : un peu comme ces téléfilms érotiques de M6 de notre adolescence dont les scènes les plus intéressantes (d’un point de vue cinématographique, cela s’entend) se trouvaient interrompues, soit par une coupure publicitaire soit par le générique de fin… Ne reste plus qu’à attendre le premier album longue durée du combo pour voir si ce dernier confirme le potentiel entrevu sur cet EP.
