Que se passe t'il ? Mon jean s'est transformé en braies, ma ceinture est devenue une cartouchière et sur Antenne 2 le Président Mitterrand fait un discours ! Bon sang, ce n'est pas un simple CD, c'est une machine à remonter le temps. Me voici bloqué dans les années 80.
Richard Roncarolo et Cyril Lepizzera y sont, eux, bloqué depuis un certain temps. Ce "Structural Damage" en est la preuve ! Ils font revivre un duo qu'on croyait éteint : Cacophony. Oh, il ne s'agit pas d'une copie conforme, évidemment, mais l'esprit est là. Pour ceux qui sont passé à côté ou qui sont trop jeunes, voilà le principe : deux guitaristes unissent leur style pour faire le tour de tout ce que l'on peut faire avec une guitare (et même un peu plus). C'est jouissif un moment, mais ça lasse.
Soyons justes, les deux guitaristes sont des virtuoses. La guitare n'a plus de secret pour eux depuis longtemps et l'on comprend qu'avec un tel niveau ils aient eu envie de se défouler. Croyez-moi, de nombreux passages sont proprement impressionnants, ça va vite, c'est fluide et juste. On est rapidement enseveli sous une avalanche de notes. Tout y passe : le blues, le progressif limite jazz et même du Heavy. Et dans chacun de ces styles le duo démontre son aisance. On se demande même si les titres ne sont pas conçus afin de démontrer la virtuosité des interprètes.
Le tout est de savoir si de nos jours il y a un public pour ce genre d'exploits alors que même Satriani et Malmsteen ne font plus recette. Si vous êtes guitaristes et que vous aimez les excès de vitesse, HEAVY GUITARS est assuré de vous séduire.
