Chronique un peu tardive (oui je sais…Mais on est pas des bœufs !) de ce petit groupe parisien fort sympathique dont l’album a déjà presque un an et demi. Mais vieux motard que j’aimais !
Je me méfie toujours un peu des productions Brennus, même si la démarche de ce label mérite des louanges pour défendre les couleurs du Metal français. Car on se retrouve bien souvent face à des parutions sympathiques certes, mais pas toujours très compétitives ne serait ce qu’au niveau européen.
Ici, point de démagogie, de l’objectivité, de l’objectivité, et de la sincérité.
Dire que Human Rock School m’a fait sauter au plafond et jeter le dernier DREAM THEATER à la poubelle serait excessif, mais je dois avouer que j’ai pris un certain plaisir à écouter l’album.
D’un niveau technique tout à fait décent, les musiciens savent exploiter leur bagage instrumental pour varier les ambiances, et nous naviguons sur une rivière aux courants multiples, mélangeant au gré des compositions le quasi Néo-Core puissant, et le Folk électrique louvoyant.
Difficile de dégager une influence majeure en écoutant ce Human Rock School, tant son côté versatile se plait à brouiller les pistes. On peut parfois penser à LACUNA COIL, voire THE GATHERING, pour le versant planant et éthéré, mais d’une manière générale, il est impossible de l’affilier à tel ou tel courant. Ce qui est plutôt un bon point pour la personnalité du groupe.
La voix de Lena est très agréable, et lorsqu’elle se décide de grogner plus fort que l’ours de Jean Jacques Annaud, son timbre se rapproche dangereusement de celui de Dawn Crosby, ex hurleuse chez les thrashers de DETENTE, pour les plus connaisseurs d’entre vous.
Si mon humble avis vous semble pertinent, j’oserais quand même mettre en avant la meilleure compo de l’album, « Slappy », pour son groove impeccable et ses parties vocales furieuses.
La délicatesse de « Baku » peut aussi séduire avec ses chœurs presque angéliques, ses arpèges et sa reprise très puissante.
Mais l’on n’évite pas les faux pas non plus, et le riff rebattu de « Crossroad » est franchement rébarbatif. Cela dit, la construction très équilibriste de « Purple » rattrape vite le coup, ainsi que le final au clavier de « One Man In The World ».
Le son, s’il est bon, évoque plus une démo franchement peaufinée qu’un véritable premier album, car les guitares sont bien souvent noyées au mixage, pour placer la voix plus en avant.
Ceci étant dit, pas de reproche majeur à faire, si ce n’est de compacter un peu l’ensemble, pour arriver à une homogénéité plus évidente.
Peut être pour le prochain album ?
