Serais je devenu le chroniqueur officiel des sorties de 7 WEEKS dans les colonnes de Metal-Impact ? Il faut croire, puisque après leurs deux démos, me voila une fois de plus à la tâche sur leur premier long.
7 WEEKS, je connais en studio, je connais en live. J’ai plus d’une fois écouté leur musique, quelles que soient les conditions, et j’y ai toujours pris du plaisir.
Ce phénomène se reproduit une fois de plus avec ce All Channels Off de fort bonne facture, qui sans révolutionner les codes et les concepts, sait placer la barre assez haut pour que l’on ait envie d’aller la décrocher.
On retrouve toujours les influences si chères à ce combo sympathique, de KYUSS/QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE pour le stoner léger, à STONE TEMPLE PILOT/SOUNDGARDEN pour le côté alternatif.
Ce qui devient très vrai, c’est qu’à force de jouer, les 7 WEEKS ont parfaitement réussi à combiner ces deux aspects, pour au final mettre au point un hybride parfait. Et de fait, se créer une identité bien perso, qu’ils peuvent revendiquer haut et fort !
Le chant en anglais est toujours aussi bon, autant sur la prononciation que sur le phrasé et la qualité vocale. Les guitares sont toujours aussi mordantes et les riffs simples, mais percutants. La rythmique assure, sans en faire trop, ce qui aboutit à un ensemble parfaitement cohérent et efficace.
Efficace. Tel semble être le leitmotiv de 7 WEEKS, à l’instar d’un AC/DC, en beaucoup moins simpliste toutefois.
Si vous me permettez d’isoler certains titres pour leur spécificité, ou tout simplement leur qualité particulière, j’oserais parler de « All Channels Off » pour sa guitare semi acoustique et ses roulements de caisse claire inventifs, « Loaded » pour sa franchise, « Deadloss » pour son rythme bancal, « On The Run » parce que Scott WEILAND et sa bande n’auraient pas fait mieux, et pour finir « Whisper (and dig the ground) » parce que les SMASHING PUMPKINS sont morts et enterrés.
7 WEEKS, c’est du faux brut, mais du vrai authentique. Ca peut s’écouter chez soi, comme le prouve cet album, mais ça n’est jamais aussi bon qu’en live. Mais All Channels Off est une fois de plus une réussite. Ce qui devient récurrent avec eux.
Mais après tout, des valeurs sures, ça rassure non ?
