« HOPERCKUT in your fuckin’ face ! » comme dirait Champi en intro de « Wordless ». C’est exactement la sensation ressentie à la fin des 21 petites minutes qui composent le premier effort studio de ce groupe de français revendiquant un « Moshing Hardcore » des plus intenses et Efficaces (avec un « E » majuscule, s’il vous plaît !). La réalité est un peu différente, il faut le concéder. Avant toute chose, je dois reconnaître que, comme quantité folle de petites formations hexagonales, le son et le nom d’HOPERCKUT ne sont jamais arrivés jusqu'à mes oreilles avant ce Blessed By Nothing. Alors comme quantité folle de petites formations hexagonales, les mecs de Saint-Nazaire ont eu la bonne intuition de fournir le classique feuillet promotionnel retraçant une rapide bio du combo. Mon job (mais également ma personnalité) m’imposent un travail d’analyse minutieux et je m’efforce de souligner les qualités et les défauts, même des détails les plus insignifiants. Et en parlant de détail insignifiant, cet historique est une catastrophe orthographique qui enverrait très certainement Bernard Pivot danser une rumba avec Jean-Claude Van Damme plutôt que de corriger leur dictée. Un détail, certes. Mais un mauvais apriori, également.
Fort heureusement, les quelques groupes qui sont cités en matière d’inspiration par HOPERCKUT sont suffisamment bien plagiés pour effacer une pointe de dyslexie. HATEBREED, BORN FROM PAIN, FULL BLOWN CHAOS, DO OR DIE… trois fois oui ! Blessed By Nothing démarre en puissance après un avant-propos insignifiant et une ouverture aux guitares interminable. Le corps de « Since Prejudice » est assez robuste pour supporter le poids de ces tâtonnements initiaux. La première de leur particularité est d’avoir, à l’instar de BLACK BOMB A, deux chanteurs complémentaires à savoir Champi aux screams HxC (cité plus haut) et Guillaume aux grunts. Dans l’exercice, je dirais que le second est un peu plus à l’aise. Après et d’un point de vue plus musical, ce Hardcore est un remodelage parfois hésitant entre un Hardcore old-school (« Burst Behind ») et quelque chose de plus novateur (« Respect », « Frozen »). La production est soignée, ce qui est un moindre mal au vu de leurs revendications d’efficacité. Egalement, les guitares (au détriment de la basse) s’en sortent admirablement bien avec des riffs propres qui évoquent aussi EARTH CRISIS et TURMOIL. J’ai même reconnu une pointe de DEICIDE dans les premières secondes de « Frozen ». Et si HOPERCKUT qualifie sa musique avec « Moshing », c’est en grande partie grâce à Bikette (sic !) et sa batterie qui provoque des fourmillements dans nos nuques et nos jambes. On a très envie de sauter, de s’exprimer sur des breaks ingénieusement marqués. Après, il faut tout de même relativiser la chose. Il n’y a absolument rien de neuf sous le soleil. Et si BORN FROM PAIN n’avait pas existé, que serait devenu « Call To Rage » ? Quid de « Worless » avec FULL BLOWN CHAOS ? Enfin, « Outside » achève la bête avec un rythme plus Rock & Roll. C’était néanmoins pas la peine de le gueuler à la manière d’un Punk bourré sur la dernière ligne de guitare. Comique.
De la bonne volonté et… c’est déjà pas mal. Avec ce premier jet, HOPERCKUT montre qu’il s’est gavé de bon Hardcore pendant son enfance. Mais l’adolescent qu’il est devenu n’a pas encore construit sa propre personnalité. C’est là son principal défaut. Mais avec une telle capacité, on prescrirait presque des hormones de croissance.
