Avec le type de « groupe » que peut être NIGHTRAGE il faut quasiment une explication de texte à chaque sortie. En effet le Sieur Marios ILLIOPOULOS (guitare et ex EXHUMATION) n'a toujours rêvé que d'exporter sa musique en dehors des frontières de son pays que trop peu Metallique pour lui. Pour ce faire il met tous les attributs de son côté quitte à changer de musiciens entre chaque enregistrement. Cet album ne fait pas exception puisque c'est tout le line-up présent sur A New Disease Is Born, son prédécesseur, qui a été remercié.
Mais revenons quelques années en arrière pour nous souvenir de ce bon vieux temps où la bête immonde Tomas « Tompa » LINDBERG (ex AT THE GATES, ex LOCK UP, ex THE CROWN, DISFEAR et j'en passe) se trouvait derrière le micro. Personne, et moi le premier, n'aurait parié un kopeck sur la capacité de la formation à se relever de ce départ. « Tompa » ayant pour fâcheuse habitude de porter l'estocade à tous ses ex-partenaires, tant sa voix est inimitable. Messire MARIOS avait alors tenté un pari fou, celui de remplacer son brailleur par un individu n'ayant aucun point commun avec l'ogre suédois. Et malgré une méfiance toute légitime des fans de la première heure, ce changement brutal amena nos protagonistes au sommet d'un art sublimé par l'audace et le courage de ses intervenants.
Alors que penser des messages promotionnels accompagnant cet album et nous annonçant avec retentissement l'arrivée d'un clone de la montagne nordique ?
Par grand chose dans le fond ! Oui, oui certaines intonations sont bien là mais le fiord qui sépare le talent du génie est bien présent entre nos oreilles en attente d'émotions fortes.
Que penser également du retour en fanfare au STUDIO FREDMAN au côté de Fredrik NORDSTRÖM tout en rabaissant Jacob HANSEN ?
Marios ILLIOPOULOS n'aurait-il pas digéré les chiffres de vente de son rejeton pour tenter un tel retour arrière ?
Autant vous le dire tout de suite, à force de regarder dans son rétroviseur on en oublie d'avancer. Sans que cette galette ne soit mauvaise, loin de là, on se retrouve ici avec une recette réchauffée.
Car Oui Monsieur, la grande cuisine ne passe pas au micro-onde !
Pourtant son Leader est toujours aussi talentueux et ses interventions guitaristiques sont absolument sublimes, mais il manque ce petit supplément d'âme qui fait passer un album à la postérité.
Nous n'étions pas loin avec « Among Wolves » et son introduction très Maidenienne période 80, mais beaucoup trop de compositions n'auraient fini qu'en face B de n'importe quel single de Descent Into Chaos.
Résumons-nous !
Nous voici en présence d'un bon album de Mélo Death qui n'arrive pas à nous faire oublier ses illustres prédécesseurs.
