Grindeux à leurs heures, les membres de GENERAL SURGERY sont tous, accrochez-vous bien (mais pas trop non plus, ça reste du second degré), des diplômés de la faculté de médecine de Stockholm, avec une mention dans tout ce qui concerne les ectomies, les otomies ainsi que la chirurgie viscérale et vasculaire. Avec ça, c’est plus évident de trouver comme nom de chanson « Exotoxic Septicity », « Adnexal Mass », « Perfunctory Fleshless Precipitate » ou encore « Plexus Necrosis ». Et dans un registre un peu plus sérieux, on se demande parfois d’où vient cette passion pour le domaine médical, les ablations et les abats. Il a suffi qu’ABORTED en fasse sa marque de fabrique pour que les charcutiers en herbe prolifèrent et transforment les studios en salles d’opérations clandestines. GENERAL SURGERY nous installe donc sur le billard, affute ses outils et entame une lobotomie sans anesthésiques.
Qu’importe la douleur, le sang versé, les séquelles, il faut que ce Grind rentre le plus massivement possible dans votre crâne. Pour cela, rien de mieux que de partir sur de bonnes bases. Comprenez par « bonnes » ; « violentes », « extrêmes », « solides ». A partir d’un Grind qui, heureusement, ne dissimule pas ses penchants Death, les suédois forceront les portes de votre esprit pour s’infiltrer sournoisement dans votre inconscient. NASUM, CARCASS, NAPALM DEATH, REPULSION sont autant de références qui serviront d’excuses au déclenchement d’un feu Saint-Antoine par le souvenir. Comme ils le souligneront à maintes reprises, le pronostic vital est engagé. Vous être globalement entre la vie et la mort. Et le bruit discontinu produit par ces cinq furieux ne soulagera pas vos peines. Masterisé par Peter In De Betou (DIMMU BORGIR, MESHUGGAH, BRING ME THE HORIZON, DARKANE…), Corpus In Extremis : Analysing Necrocriticism est un album gras, massif mais authentique. Il accentue le renouveau du Grind/Death avec l’apparition de pointures de plus en plus à l’aise et imaginatives. Alors certes, c’est toujours très bruyant, mais au bout de bientôt vingt ans de carrière, la team emmenée par le docteur Carlsson a eu le temps de peaufiner ses gammes pour nous proposer davantage d’hétérogénéité dans ses compositions. On a même droit à des tracks de Grind longues de quatre (« Deadhouse ») et cinq (« Virulent Corpus Dispersement ») minutes. Comme quoi, les nordiques sont à la pointe de la technologie et innovent comme ils peuvent au grand damne de nos pavillons. Mieux encore, les scandinaves, à la grâce d’une volonté et d’une technicité ambitieuse, nous gratifient de pistes sur lesquelles le docteur Maure lui-même, du haut de ses quelques 96 plaintes d’anciens patients pour « mise en danger de la vie d’autrui » et « pratique illégale de la chirurgie esthétique » serait capable de stériliser son outillage par respect devant tant de négligence. C’est vraisemblablement la saleté et le manque d’hygiène qui rendent ce full-lenght aussi insoutenable que malin.
Si vous faites appel à l’équipe de GENERAL SURGERY, ce n’est pas tant car vous souffrez du manque d’originalité du Grind, mais plutôt car vous avez besoin d’une solide béquille sur laquelle vous reposer. Corpus In Extremis : Analysing Necrocriticism est une machine, une sulfateuse qui vous plombe les boyaux. Et ses auteurs sont tout à fait le genre de praticiens miteux qui vous amputent du pied gauche alors que le diagnostic stipule que votre gangrène se développe sur le pied droit. Et qui vous équilibrent dans la foulée, sans indemnités…
