Trompé par plusieurs mois d’inactivité, j’ai d’abord cru que les labels avaient inventé un nouveau système de protection sur les cds promos : la voice off, plus fort que la voice over. Il s’avère en réalité que Sequenzen einer Wanderung, oeuvre testament de NOCTE OBDUCTA, est essentiellement instrumental. Le Black des débuts n’est plus de mise ; le genre affiché est aujourd’hui celui de Metal avantgardiste, à condition que l’on admette qu’une formation puisse arborer cette étiquette pour composer une musique qui n’a plus rien de Metal tout en s’en revendiquant encore. L’album se compose de deux titres, sobrement intitulé « Teil 1 » et « Teil 2 », découpé chacun en un certain nombre de séquences pour un total avoisinant les 45 minutes. Sur « Teil 1 », synthés aux sonorités new age, parfois futuristes, et guitares aux accents nostalgiques se succèdent pour près de vingt minutes de relaxation. Il faut en attendre une quinzaine pour que des bribes d’une conservation en allemand nous parviennent, dans un style et un environnement sonore qui n’est pas sans rappeler le « Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast » de PINK FLOYD. « Teil 1 » se termine sur des riffs plus Pop Rock, même saturés, avec une voix qui prend des accents lyriques mais dont, sans pour autant en comprendre les paroles, on doute de la profondeur signifiante… Sur « Teil 2 », les guitares sont plus présentes mais l’ennui guette, car Sequenzen einer Wanderung ne donne pas toujours l’impression d’une progression mais d’une errance : peut-être était-ce là l’intention du groupe, Wanderung étant le terme allemand pour errance, mais l’auditeur a parfois la désagréable impression de tourner en rond plutôt que d’aller quelque part. Un passage ou une intro Doom, ça peut parfois sembler long, mais, lorsque cela s’inscrit dans un titre de plus de vingt minutes comme sur « Teil 2 », autant dire que l’effet s’en trouve renforcé. Les quelques hurlements Black qui surgissent sur la fin de l’album n’y changent rien. Sequenzen einer Wanderung a les allures d’un testament qui ne se veut pas un dernier coup d’éclat, mais bien plutôt la chronique d’une mort annoncée, acceptée et apaisée. A Fine Day To Exist, comme diraient nos amis d’ANATHEMA.
