Moi, le Death/Grind, c’est pas ce que j’préfère… C’est bon, j’rigole ! A vrai dire, y’a pas meilleur moyen de se déboucher les sinus en phase d’incubation d’une bonne vieille influenza des familles qu’un gros cataplasme concocté par KILL THE CLIENT. Mémé peut remballer sa tisane à base de pattes de mouches, sang de dromadaire, pelures d’oignons et fleur de cactus de Bulawayo, j’ai trouvé un remède plus efficace contre l’embourbement nasal. Les américains, qui nous arrivent directement de Dallas, proposent avec leur Cleptocracy un pamphlet imaginatif et critique sur les maux de la société américaine actuelle. Deuxième essai après Escalation Of Hostility en 2005 (et aussi un split avec AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED), cette production signée sur Willowtip Records, regorge de revendications. Nous l’allons montrer tout à l’heure (et si possible avant que l’agneau ne se fasse encore avoir comme un bleu et bouffer aussi sec par le loup vorace).
Elle regorge de revendications… et de messages. Ma bonté suprême m’autorise un détour sur la cover. Cimetière, barbelés, soldat, homme politique à la tête de mort sans oublier l’œil dans le triangle, symbole maçonnique et son numéro fétiche : le 322, pas besoin d’un dessin pour comprendre que KILL THE CLIENT est un farouche opposant au système étatsunien actuel. Pour la petite histoire, le 322 renvoi en réalité au 322ème jour d’une année non-bissextile, c’est-à-dire au 18 novembre (1830), anniversaire de la mort d’Adam Weishaupt, à l’origine des Illuminatis et de tout ce qui en découle (cf. Book review : Anges & Démons). Ce nombre est également présent sur le logo des « Skull And Bones » qui compte parmi ses rangs les clans Bush, Harriman et Kerry. Inutile de préciser que derrière leur concept marginal, les bucherons texans font beaucoup, beaucoup de bruit ! Le plus possible, pour se faire entendre j’imagine. Ça n’a pas manqué ! Lancé comme un bulldozer, le quintette explose tout sur son passage à gros coups de Grind (base principale) marqué d’effluves Death. Comme toujours dans le Grind, plus c’est court, mieux c’est. Alors ne vous réjouissez pas trop à la vue des dix-huit pistes offertes car la durée du full-lenght n’en sera pas plus longue. Rome ne s’est peut-être pas faite en un jour, mais elle pourrait bien être dévastée en vingt-trois minutes. Juste le temps qu’il faut à KILL THE CLIENT pour nous enchaîner dans un local désaffecté et nous punir sévèrement à grands renforts de riffs tranchants, imprévisibles, détonants, de blasts ultra-marqués qui vous feront perdre la raison et d’une multitude de variations rythmiques… incontrôlables. Dans quel état d’esprit peut-on préparer pareille boucherie ? C’est dans une violence des plus indescriptibles que le temps passe. Et pas moyen de voir un rayon de soleil, il fait nuit noire. Le mixage est un vrai travail de porc et devient contre son gré un des points forts de Cleptocracy. Tant qu’a faire, sonnons le plus mal possible, cherchons à produire des sonorités crasseuses et négligées, notre travail n’en sera que sublimé. L’effet de style frôle la perfection. Je pense que j’oserais à peine donner un vulgaire cinq sur dix avec une production limpide. Ici, cette dernière est bâclée et donne tout son charme à la rondelle. L’inconscience et la brutalité des musiciens fait le reste.
Ce n’est donc pas pour ses compositions en elles-mêmes que ce jet est grand (et pour cause, que le jour où l’on donne un quatre étoiles à un disque de Grind pour sa musicalité soit décrété jour de fête nationale !) mais plutôt pour son esprit provoc’, dérangeant, saturé en bestialité et finalement, hautement réfléchi. Vas-y George, maintenant que tu peux plus faire le guignol dans ton bureau ovale, mets-toi au Grind !
