On regarde des films parfois en se disant qu’ils seraient l’illustration parfaite d’un cauchemar qu’on espère ne jamais faire. Il en va de même pour certains albums qui sont la bande sonore idéale d’un massacre onirique qui fait froid dans le dos. Alors, nous pourrions toujours gloser sur l’intérêt ou non de vivre par procuration des craintes qui ne sont même pas les nôtres, mais il serait ridicule d’admettre comme postulat définitif que seules les entités concrètes peuvent régir notre vie.
Et si l’abstrait, au même titre qu’une réalité parallèle issue de la théorie des quanta, pouvait néanmoins laisser une emprunte tangible dans un univers désespérément uni dimensionnel ?
Imaginez les conséquences directes de cette hypothèse quelques instants. Le simple fait de penser, de rêver, de laisser son esprit vagabonder, ou plus prosaïquement, de s’intégrer pendant un laps de temps défini ou non à un monde non matérialisable pourrait influer sur notre plan, et ainsi distordre l’ordre des choses de manière indélébile.
Effrayant non ?
Nous ne sommes pas en train de disserter sur la véracité possible d’une oeuvre comme Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles, mais si Lewis Carroll avait eu la chance de pouvoir s’exprimer avec un instrument, je parie qu’il n’aurait rien produit de différent que ce Odd Senses.
Après écoute du produit en question, vous m’en poseriez sans doute beaucoup.
Vous me diriez, assez péremptoirement je suppose :
« Mais comment fais tu pour considérer cet amas de bruits incongrus comme une œuvre musicale ? »
Je pourrais me targuer d’une quelconque culture musicale, mais la démarche serait vaine face à votre incompréhension. A quoi bon citer des artistes comme Frank ZAPPA, THROBBING GRISTLE, ou encore ATROCITY, lorsque votre interlocuteur fait preuve d’un esprit fermé, et dépendant de siècles entiers de conformisme dicté par les us et coutumes de la mode ?
Je vous le concède, nous nageons là en pleine subjectivité, mais n’est ce pas mon droit d’être enthousiasmé une fois encore par un groupe qui refuse les lieux communs, et décide de pratiquer l’art comme il l’estime juste, puisque celui-ci est sans doute le seul exutoire dont disposent bon nombre de musiciens ?
Comme simple occurrence, je me permettrais de citer le morceau « A Murder To Child ». Et si vous n’y voyez pas de fortes réminiscences d’œuvres classiques passées à la postérité, je préfère abandonner ici mon laïus.
On peut apprécier un album pour la compilation de pièces individuelles qui le composent. On peut aussi l’appréhender comme un jet monolithique qu’il faut envisager sous l’angle de la globalité.
C’est ici le propos.
Après Our Puzzling Encounters Considered, PSYOPUS s’enfonce un peu plus dans l’expérimentation, et de fait, accouche d’une merveille qui, j’en suis sur, sera reconnue en tant que telle dans quelques années, une fois analysée, disséquée, et toutes les composantes digérées.
