Pour faire une bonne chronique il n’y a pas 36 solutions. Soit vous connaissez bien le groupe, son histoire et sa discographie, et des écoutes répétées suffisent, soit vous ne le connaissez pas, et outre les écoutes, un travail de recherche sur le net s’avère indispensable pour ne pas dire de grosses conneries.
On essaie aussi de jeter une oreille sur les albums précédents, pour juger de l’évolution ou de la régression.
Ce que j’ai bien sur fait, puisque je n’avais jamais rien entendu ni lu sur Cyril LEPIZZERA.
J’ai d’abord parcouru les quelques chroniques disponibles de Smile Has The Death, et j’ai donc pu voir qu’il avait largement été apprécié par de nombreux webzines, qui lui ont souvent donné une excellente note.
Puis je l’ai écouté. Une fois. Et puis deux, et puis plusieurs.
Et là, je me suis demandé. A-t-on tous écouté le même album ?
Comment peut on noter un tel album 8.5/10 ou même plus ? Mes oreilles auraient elles un problème ? Je ne crois pas pourtant, elles sont nettoyées régulièrement, et rompues à l’exercice de la découverte. Pas sectaires, honnêtes, âpres au travail…
Alors je ne sais pas. Peut être n’étais je pas la bonne personne pour faire ce boulot.
Cyril, je ne te connais pas, et je n’ai aucun grief contre toi ou ta musique. Tu es un bon guitariste, avec une technique aguerrie pour ce que j’ai pu en juger, mais franchement, tes compositions, ça va pas être possible.
Je les ai écoutées attentivement, et outre le fait qu’elles se ressemblent toutes (mis à part le final classique « La Grande Sarabande In D Minor »), il y a plusieurs autres détails qui m’ont choqués.
C’est qui cette chanteuse ? Autant un chant lyrique bien placé peut me séduire, autant une vocaliste qui se troue une fois sur deux, et tombe un demi ton au dessus ou au dessous, ça m’agace.
Et la, je dois dire qu’elle fait fort. De plus, sur deux morceaux, la rythmique n’est pas franchement calée non plus !
Quand au chant principal, si il est parfois efficace (« Drapped In The Moonlight » aux accents limite Black), il est bien souvent trop nasillard et presque risible.
La production ne m’encourage pas non plus à jeter des fleurs, et le son de guitare est de temps à autre plombé par un grain insupportable, qui rappelle le bruit de fond des mauvais enregistrements en cassette.
De plus, le shredding quasi systématique n’est pas non plus indispensable, d’autant plus que lorsque tu tournes acoustique, c’est plutôt séduisant (cf. le brillant solo de « No Escape From Hell Part I »).
Alors, je suis désolé, mais je vais me démarquer de mes petits camarades du net et te mettre une mauvaise note. Parce que musicalement, le gothique néo classique ne supporte pas la médiocrité de composition, et parce que trop d’erreurs jonchent cet album.
Ce qui n’empêche que tu restes un très bon musicien.
