Je sais bien que les fêtes sont juste terminées, et que vous aspirez sans doute à un peu de calme avant de reprendre le boulot (si vous ne l’avez pas déjà repris !), mais allez, histoire de réitérer les effets dévastateurs du champagne de papi ou du Sauternes de Tata Jeannine, je vous propose du brutal.
Mais attention, pas le picrate qui tâche et qui laisse les neurones en vrac, non, plutôt la liqueur qui chauffe le palais, avant d’enivrer avec classe, et qui vous laisse en pleine possession de vos moyens !
Allons y, trinquons un peu avant d’examiner la bouteille. Surprise, le cru de vient pas de France, ni d’Italie, mais d’un pays beaucoup plus exotique, et moins réputé pour ses boissons forte que les USA ou l’Angleterre, le Luxembourg !
Alors, ça descend tout seul non ?
Comment, ça vous rappelle d’autres breuvages plus ou moins récents ? C’est un fait, mais composer un vin totalement inédit me parait impossible, alors identifions les saveurs, et oublions les derechef. Car de plagiat il n’est pas question ici, parlons plutôt d’influences ayant fait leurs preuves.
ABSTRACT RUPTURE, puisqu’il faut bien les nommer, avance doucement, mais sûrement. Democadencia n’est pas un chef d’œuvre, il reste encore quelques fautes à gommer, mais on s’approche doucement de l’AOC de prestige.
Alors oui, le coteau Thrash a déjà été exploité de nombreuses fois. Le cépage à des relents de FEAR FACTORY, de METALLICA, et autres noms plus ou moins connus. Mais est ce important ?
Les deux premiers titres de l’album louchent sévère vers Burton C BELL et sa clique, en moins robotique. Plus fluide, mois agression systématique, un peu moins inventif aussi… « The Void » reste classique dans sa structure à la CALLENISH CIRCLE/TRIVIUM, avec mélodies et puissance combinées.
Le solo inventif et discordant de « Primal Sin Crisis » retient l’attention, quant à « Fracture », son intro hyper speedé frise le dépassement de vitesse autorisée avant de partir vers des harmonies plus sereines. « Poisoned Love » fait s’abattre une chape de plomb de plusieurs tonnes, avec son ambiance Death, et son chant très vindicatif. La complexité de « Carpe Noctem » n’a d’égale que ses rebondissements rythmiques incessants. Et le bien nommé « Mental Driftwood » est entêtant comme un hymne d’EXODUS, dernière période.
Les instrumentistes sont très capables, mais la palme revient tout de même à Drittt, le chanteur, pour son ampleur vocale et ses modulations qui ne sont pas sans rappeler l’ancien vocaliste de ACCUSER (remember Who Dominates Who ?).
Alors, pourquoi ne pas commencer l’année avec un excellent album de Thrash moderne ? Car même si la copie est encore entachée de quelques ratures (le franchement bof « Rejections », et la redite dispensable de « From Dust To Nowhere »), il serait de bon ton de ne retenir que l’essentiel.
A savoir qu’on peut être efficace et inventif avec des recettes déjà employées de nombreuses fois par le passé.
