DEADSTAR (FRA) - Moonlight (2008)

DEADSTAR est le projet instrumental d'un Français, François Pouvreau. Pour la petite histoire, ce compositeur solitaire a commencé à enregistrer ses propres créations avec son seul clavier sur un enregistreur 6 pistes. Puis le garçon s'est mis à l'ère de l'informatique pour perfectionner les morceaux de DEADSTAR.
En Août dernier, il publie sa première démo, intitulée Moonlight, pour enfin passer la vitesse supérieure.
Moonlight est ainsi segmenté en 13 plages entièrement instrumentales, avec chacune une personnalité propre. Si Pouvreau déclare être influencé par des artistes aussi divers que CHAOSTAR (un de ses morceaux en porte d'ailleurs le nom), SAVIOUR MACHINE, Enya ou encore Phillip Glass (compositeur de musiques de films et contemporaines), il se rapproche toutefois du vrai lorsqu'il décrit DEADSTAR comme un projet aux relents d'ambiances sombres et de musiques de films fantastiques.
Car l'esprit de Danny Elfman plane avec insistance sur cette démo.
Evidemment je ne vous parle pas d'une quelconque allusion au générique des Desperate Housewives (dont Elfman est l'auteur), mais plutôt aux bandes-son que le bonhomme a écrites pour les films de Tim Burton, par exemple La Légende du Cavalier Sans Tête (Sleepy Hollow), ou encore le générique des Contes de la Crypte. Quelque chose de saisissant, haletant, effrayant mais aussi parfois virevoltant. Cela vous donnera déjà une idée du style de DEADSTAR.
Alors bien sûr, si l'on voulait se reconvertir en Service des Ressources Humaines du Metal, je vous dirais que François Pouvreau, en tant que claviériste et compositeur, ferait le bonheur de groupes de Black Metal orchestral ou symphonique, à l'image d'un DIMMU BORGIR ou d'un VESANIA. Ce n'est peut-être pas son but, certes. Mais même si cette démo, relativement courte (30 minutes), s'écoute d'une traite et dégage un climat horrifique pas désagréable, le projet DEADSTAR risque de tourner en rond au bout de 3 galettes du même acabit.
Et il serait fort dommage de gâcher un potentiel prometteur.
