« Waaah, la classe ! KRYZEES c’est les fils spirituels d’IRON MAIDEN ! » Ouais, la classe ! Avec le nombre de fois où on dû leur rappeler qu’ils sont la descendance d’une vierge (de fer qui plus est), j’ose même plus le faire ce rapprochement. Il n’empêche qu’en plus d’être flatteur, c’est totalement vrai. Originaires de Metz, une ville qui me donne des frissons pour des raisons purement footballistiques, nos lascars déboulent d’on ne sait trop où avec un premier disque autoproduit à l’artwork tout bonnement fantasque, minutieux, ironique et réussi. Un bon point tant on pleure régulièrement devant le manque de créativité de petites formations qui ne profite que trop peu de la liberté d’expression qu’offre le travail visuel.
Du côté de la musique, KRYZEES se revendique comme s’inspirant de la New Wave Of British Heavy Metal tout en évoluant dans un registre plus old-school. A l’écoute de The Wheel Of Fate, c’est surtout ce dernier point qui ressort. Leurs compositions respirent, transpirent l’esprit Heavy vieille école par tous les pores. De « Bleeding Life » à « Trick Or Treats », la mémoire d’IRON MAIDEN est bafouée de A à Z. Les lorrains ressuscitent les morts sans vergogne. Les similitudes sont omniprésentes, dans les instruments, dans les vocaux, dans les tempos, dans les atmosphères surchauffées. KRYZEES ne réinvente pourtant rien, le grand livre du Heavy étant depuis belle lurette écrit et son Apocalypse en cours de rédaction. Il faut bien avouer que MEGADETH, MANOWAR, SAXON, METALLICA et les autres ne sont pas éternels. A grands coups de Metal ravageur, engagé et énergique, les français tentent de reprendre le flambeau. Avec à leur tête un duo vocal (Laurent/Damien) complètement barré, qui s’autorise des virées dans n’importe quel style (prestation made in 3 INCHES OF BLOOD sur « Trick Or Treats » par exemple) et qui chauffe les aigües à bloc. Pas sûr que Laurent s’en sorte sans angine blanche à l’issue de sa performance. Elle donne quand même beaucoup de relief aux compositions. On notera également une très bonne présence de la basse tenue de main de maître par Sebastien (magnifique solo à l’appui sur la track éponyme). J’accorde toujours beaucoup d’importance à la place de la quatre cordes dans un groupe et je dois dire que le mixage de cette dernière est au point, comme pour celui de la six cordes. Au point comme la production en général, totalement irréprochable pour une autoproduction. Et si après ça, KRYZEES peine pour trouver un label, il va falloir à repenser sérieusement le cahier des charges puisque comment ne pas s’incliner devant des tubes comme « Bleeding Life », « Destiny », « Judgement Day » ou « Back To My Life » (et son magnifique break relaxant pour lequel je suis tombé en amour) ?
Inutile de rajouter grand-chose, l’essentiel est dit. KRYZEES est une formation française talentueuse sur laquelle il faudra compter pour garder la flamme du Heavy Metal traditionnel en vie. Une vraie bonne surprise. D’ailleurs les avis sont unanimes là-dessus ; Heaven Can Wait !
