Si on m’avait dit alors que je tenais dans mes mains pour la première fois un soir de Novembre 1986, que le responsable de cet album monstrueux dans tous les sens du terme qu’était Pleasure To Kill ferait partie 22 ans après du patrimoine du Heavy Metal, j’aurais bien ri.
KREATOR. Un nom qui foutait les jetons à l’époque. Une pochette provocante, une musique qui ne l’était pas moins. Maintenant, les idoles de l’extrême font du Gore-Grind, du Post-Hardcore, et KREATOR ne fait plus peur à grand monde. Les adolescentes se fringuent comme des poupées manga, et écoutent dès leur plus jeune age des groupes violents, leurs aînés ne jurent que par le Hip-Hop, SLIPKNOT, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE…
Mais il fut un temps où l’écoute des albums des allemands ne provoquait pas le moindre sourire chez les auditeurs, qu’ils soient critiques ou simples acheteurs. Bof, on dit que le temps passe, mais il est des soirs où je me sens vraiment trop vieux…
Mais parlons de ce qui nous préoccupe, à savoir le premier album studio de KREATOR depuis le plus qu’efficace Enemy Of God il y a 4 ans.
Retour à une production plus crue, et un son qui met particulièrement bien en relief leur style si particulier. Du live en studio, ça peut paraître cliché, mais c’est un fait, et Hordes Of Chaos est sans doute ce qui se rapproche le plus de KREATOR live.
Un mélange de rouleau-compresseur Heavy et d’un taille-haies purement Thrash, les moments forts ne manquent pas, tout comme les parties de Headbanging furieux qui vont éclore dans les chaumières. La voix de Mille vieillit bien, même si l’on a l’impression plus d’une fois qu’il force son gosier à vociférer, et la batterie de Ventor est toujours aussi musclée.
Une fois de plus, les thèmes évoqués tournent autour de la liberté individuelle et des ravages de la guerre, ce qui est plus ou moins le cas depuis Extreme Aggression, mais comment en vouloir à PETROZZA d’être sincère, et de chanter des textes qui le touchent.
La musique est diablement efficace, mais ça non plus ça n’est pas une surprise (la surprise, c’est plutôt que Mille ressemble de plus en plus à Shane EMBURY !), et les futurs hits live pullulent comme des mouches autour du dernier Vincent Delerm.
Les titres sont à dominante très rapide, avec un petit plus pour le titre d’ouverture, « Hordes Of Chaos », que les fans reprendront sans doute très vite en chœur. « Demon Prince » est une tuerie au même titre, et « Amok Run » bénéficie d’une intro en arpèges avec voix feutrée, pour finalement nous proposer un refrain aux limites du leitmotiv ! « Radical Resistance » est à ranger aux cotés d’hymnes du passé tels que « Toxic Trace », ou « Betrayer », tandis que « Warcurse » flirte avec les limitations de vitesse.
Bilan plus que positif pour ce Hordes Of Chaos, qui se situe parmi les meilleures productions de KREATOR, mais ont-ils seulement une fois déçu ?
Alors oui, c’est moins fashion que le dernier UNDEROATH, moins brutal que la horde de groupes Polonais qui sévissent depuis 10 ans, mais il est bon parfois de se souvenir que certains étaient la avant les autres.
Et puis merde, un mec qui a composé un titre comme « The Pestilence » mérite le respect et c’est tout !
