Pour ceux qui ne seraient pas encore tout à fait familiers de l’univers musical du projet de la nouille noire, THE BLACK NOODLE PROJECT est, à titre informatif, un jeune combo parisien existant depuis 2001 et fondé par son actuel chanteur et guitariste Jérémie Grima. Voilà pour les présentations officielles histoire de bien se situer. Secundo, le quatuor francilien (originaire du 92) a déjà à son actif deux opus de Rock Progressif aux relents Atmosphériques avec les éditions tour à tour de And Life Goes On en 2004 suivi deux ans après de Play Again qui ne laissèrent en aucun cas la presse spécialisée de marbres. Des efforts récompensés à leur juste valeur tant le talent transpirait à travers les fines mélopées du combo. Grima (féru des contes de Grimm ?) et sa bande reviennent sur le devant de la scène en cette fin d’année avec la présentation de leur troisième album studio sobrement intitulé Eleonore. Concis dans le titre, glouton dans les compositions.
Si sur le précédent opus, les influences étaient plus manifestes, l’ascendant des maitres du Progressif des seventies PINK FLOYD se fait plus mesuré et raisonnable sur celui-ci, le jeune groupe progressant d’album en album pour dévoiler à la face des auditeurs un album mature, aux compositions minutieuses et richement réussies. Ce concept album est tiré d’un conte de fée intitulé «Eléonore et le livre interdit» écrit par le principal compositeur et âme du groupe, qui expose la même sensibilité que les écrits d’un Tim Burton dont il doit à fortiori se reconnaître.
Attirés et impressionnés par les travaux d’un PORCUPINE TREE ou d’un ANATHEMA, THE BLACK NOODLE PROJECT dévoile de sérieux atouts à travers ces sept titres emprunt d’un univers mâtiné de mélodies enivrantes, de remarquables et captivants élans rythmiques. Une marque de fabrique de la part de jeunes français qui osent à travers cet opus homogène et harmonieux alternant à la fois passages Heavy et passages plus aérés et éthérés. Il en découle une invitation au voyage au pays des rêves en compagnie d’Eléonore. L’essence de TBNP consiste en un rock Metal aux tournures atmosphériques parfaitement maîtrisées où les quatre musiciens sont bien en place, où l’on ressent leur implication qui fait de ce disque une œuvre particulièrement habitée et possédée. On trouvera ainsi de bons riffs de guitares et de belles lignes de basse qui portent presque à elles seules les compositions, avec en prime une pléthore de changements de rythme et de variations complexes décrivant fort bien les méandres oniriques d’Eleonore. Dire que le groupe se réclame des travaux de OPETH n’apparaît ainsi pas fortuit. Malgré une voix un peu en deçà, trop linéaire malgré un timbre de voix intéressant et adéquat avec le style proposé, toujours est il que TBNP maîtrise du bout des doigts son sujet. On retiendra, sans aucune contestation possible, des morceaux comme «Fear », interlude instrumental minimaliste avant le déluge et les coups portés par l’élégante «Awareness» suivi de la splendide et racée «Hope». Peu de choses à redire et à leur reprocher, la production est également tout à fait honnête, rendant grâce aux arrangements parfaitement élaborés : le morceau d’ouverture «Sorrow» en est la parfaite illustration. TBNP conclut son concept album avec un titre fleuve portant bien son nom «Deliverance».
Avec ce troisième opus studio, THE BLACK NOODLE PROJECT se dévoile comme une des futures sensations du Rock Metal Progressif accessible et anti-rébarbatif. Un combo à surveiller de très près tant les labeurs proposés s’avèrent intéressants. Un grand coup de chapeau !
