Un ton classique pour un son fantastique tels sont les atouts de cette démo éponyme de BLAME, jeune quintette Vosgien qui s’est offert les services du Hertz Studio (Pologne, VADER et autres locomotives bruyantes de l’Est). Du coup, la prod en prend forcément un coup, et tous les instruments sont donc bien en place, avec un relief individuel bienvenu, qui de plus apporte une cohésion à l’ensemble.
Affrontons donc ce bloc (de l’Est !), qui pratique un hybride Death/Thrash somme toute assez respectueux des codes, sans toutefois tomber dans le piège dangereux de la redite.
Chaque musicien connaît sa partition sur le bout des doigts, et même la basse arrive à se tailler une bonne place, ce qui n’est pas négligeable dans ce genre de musique.
Le chant plein de haine et revendicatif est bien en place, et l’on peut aussi saluer les efforts syntaxiques et grammaticaux de Jean, qui nous offre des textes très séduisants, argumentatifs sans être rébarbatifs. Les allitérations sont de mise, mais attention à ne pas les utiliser comme un gimmick dans l’avenir.
Les morceaux se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas, même si je dois avouer une légère préférence pour « Opium » et ses soli mélodiques bienvenus.
L’alternance de climats lourds et de passages ultra brutaux garantit une écoute attentive, et les influences bien digérées se sentent à peine, même si l’on peut citer sans prendre trop de risques MORBID ANGEL, CARCASS (dernière époque), d’un coté, sans oublier pléthore de combos de Black mélodique de l’autre.
La voix de Jean n’est pas sans rappeler celle de Reuno de LOFOFORA, et le jeu de batterie de Julien est suffisamment inventif pour mettre en relief la structure des morceaux.
Si vous ajoutez à ça deux gratteux aussi à l’aise en rythmique qu’en solo, vous obtenez une démo de fort bonne facture.
