Il y a des groupes et des albums que l’on écoute comme un simple recueil de chansons, à la recherche du titre qui accrochera le plus l’oreille, et qu’on compilera en le dégraissant de ses scories pour écouter dans l’autoradio.
Et puis il y a les albums et les groupes qu’on écoute pour l’atmosphère générale qu’ils arrivent à créer. Pour l’ambiance mélancolique, le climat feutré ou festif, ou encore la sensation de malaise et d’emportement.
Et puis il y a les autres. Les inclassables.
Ceux qui ont un monde particulier, totalement hermétique pour certains, incroyablement prenant pour d’autres. EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN. SWANS. THROBBING GRISTLE. LYDIA LUNCH. J’en passe et des (pas forcément) meilleurs.
Naät m’avait déjà mis la puce à l’oreille concernant WHOURKR. J’étais en droit de m’attendre à un peu tout pour leur premier longue durée, mais là j’avoue qu’ils ont poussé le bouchon très loin.
On écoute Concrete comme on regarde un LYNCH. Sans savoir à quoi s’attendre à chaque seconde qui passe. On attend de la cohérence, il nous livre de l’abstraction. On attend de la logique, il nous perd sur des chemins de traverses. On attend le chaos, il nous offre la quiétude.
WHOURKR est de la même trempe. Cet album est un livre qu’on feuillette goulûment, tout en sachant que la page suivante peut être vierge ou bien remplie à rabord de charabia.
Faire du morceau par morceau serait inutile et même ridicule.
Death Metal. Electronica. Expérimental. Industriel. Pop. Tout et rien à la fois.
Deux cerveaux dérangés ? Oui, sans doute. C’est aussi ce qu’on disait de Galilée et de Copernic. Vous m’excuserez la comparaison. Je suis enthousiaste, on le serait à moins.
Je ne m’acharnerai pas à essayer de vous convaincre. Le plus simple (mais aussi le plus difficile !) est de glisser la rondelle dans votre lecteur, de vous asseoir et de vous laisser envahir. Vous pourrez détester, personne ne vous en voudra. Vous pourrez adorer, et peu de gens vous comprendront.
A ceux qui sortiront l’argument bruitiste fatal, je répondrai que le bruit, lorsqu’il est utilisé intelligemment, peut raser une ville entière.
Aux labels frileux qui invoqueront le manque de potentiel commercial, je leur dirai de continuer à sortir de la daube prédigérée pour ados boutonneux et sans personnalité.
A ceux qui riront, je répondrai que leur ignorance est mon plus beau cadeau.
A WHOURKR, je ne peux dire que : bravo et surtout, continuez votre route.
