Alors que la République Tchèque vient juste de perdre sa place pour les quarts de l’Euro 2008, je chronique l’album de DEMISE, groupe frontalier, la Pologne, pays prodigue en Metal rapide. Torture Garden ne fait pas exception à la règle, en lui apportant toutefois une nuance de taille, puisqu’en lieu et place du Death-Grind usuel, cette galette propose une combinaison Thrash-Death de premier plan.
Avec beaucoup de subtilité, DEMISE sait ménager de grandes plages mélodiques au milieu de son Techno-Death savoureux, et tire beaucoup plus vers AT THE GATES et SOILWORK ou encore HYPOCRISY que vers CANNIBAL CORPSE et autres raffinements bovins.
Les cassures de rythmes incessantes le disputent aux riffs hétérogènes, tantôt surpuissants, tantôt caressants, et l’on en vient même à se demander parfois si les titres ont une ossature stable. Le Free-Jazz du Death ? N’exagérons rien, mais j’opterai pour un groupe qui souhaite aérer ses compositions, pour ne pas lasser le public.
Partie gagnée en ce cas, et un titre comme « Grieve No Longer » saura satisfaire les plus exigeants d’entre vous.
Savant mélange de turbo et de diesel, ce morceau qui est peut être le plus accessible de tous, et un modèle du genre, avec son chant grave savamment sous mixé, et son chant clair bien en avant.
Quant au riff d’intro de « Remains Of Yesterday », je pense que même ACCEPT ne l’aurait pas renié ! Certes la fin du CD a un goût de réchauffé, et les dernières pistes ne sont pas les plus inspirées, mais Torture Garden s’en sort avec les honneurs et une bonne moyenne, grâce à la conviction et l’intelligence de ses musiciens, et un son plus que correct, voire très bon sur les passages les plus clairs.
Un troisième album qui augure du meilleur pour la suite, lorsque les quelques erreurs et répétitions auront été gommées.
