AIRBOURNE, c’est comme un vieux pote qu’on retrouve régulièrement. Il n’a pas changé, il raconte les mêmes vieilles blagues, les mêmes sempiternelles anecdotes d’école, mais on s’en fout, il est tellement sympa que c’est toujours un plaisir de le revoir.
Il n’a pas fait de grandes études, il ne cite pas Kant ou Hegel à tout bout de champ, et c’est peut être ça le plus important. Il n’y a pas tromperie sur la marchandise. L’Australie, c’est la terre de la franchise, de l’honnêteté, des francs du collier. Francs et durs comme le Rock.
Il est vrai que les ancêtres ne manquent pas dans le pays, et la moindre des choses et de leur faire révérence. Ce que Runnin’ Wild fait à merveille puisqu’il arrive même à se hisser à la hauteur des meilleures productions du cru. Vous aurez donc compris que les ballades tire-jus qui font pleurer les grognasses, c’est pas le genre de la maison. L’interdiction de fumer dans les lieux publics, ont s’en tamponne. On fume même à l’hosto, c’est pour dire !
Le compteur bloqué en pleine piste sur 120 mph, le sable en pleine gueule, et on continue de brailler. « Stand Up For Rock’n’Roll », « Runnin’ Wild », « Blackjack », c’est du courant alternatif/continu du meilleur cru, des roses tatouées sur le biceps, Skippy qui se prend une taloche dans sa face. Un tempo de tous les diables, un gosier à sec qui hurle sa foi, et des guitares à l’unisson pour des riffs aussi épais que le cuir de Mad Max. « Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast », c’est plus Young brothers que l’intégrale d’Angel City. Un binaire comme on en fait plus, simple, direct, sans fioritures. « Fat City », c’est le petit frère de « The Jack », avec les boutons en plus et la morve au nez. « Girls In Black », ce sont les groupies des gros cubes, les girlfriends ultimes qui ne prennent leur pied que sur le bitume, les pieds sur le pot et le cul sur une peau de vache. Du cru, pas le rencard près de la cheminée, mais le bourbon plein le marcel. « Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women », c’est l’aveu du greaser qui ne jure que par la vinasse et les filles vulgaires. Le tout sur un beat raide comme la queue du coyote, et des guitares loquaces comme un vieux poivrot le 14 juillet. « Heartbreaker » évoque plus les foies qui mettent le palpitant hors-jeu que l’histoire d’amour ratée qui vous brise le cœur. C’est du Who Made Who dans le texte, et en respectant tous les psaumes. Quant à « Hellfire » quelle plus belle conclusion pour un album parfait de bout en bout. Les cheveux gras dans le vent, et on repart pied au plancher jusqu’à la prochaine ville, en balançant les canettes vides sur un vieux kangourou affalé au bord de la route.
Ca transpire, ça crache, ça éructe, et ça chie sur les bourgeois. Runnin’ Wild, c’est le Rock comme il devrait être plus souvent. In your face, sans chichis et joué avec les tripes.
Décidemment l’Australie est une terre fertile en amours futiles, et pas étonnant que les anglais qui fuyaient la justice se réfugiaient souvent là bas.
Parce que là bas, c’est la justice populaire qui fait loi…
