Ah, en voilà une bien bonne nouvelle surtout que l’on ne s’y attendait pas si tôt. (Crotte alors) Le meilleur ami de l’homme, le caniche, personnifié par THE POODLES, fait son come back en sortant de la niche pour présenter à la communauté canine son second opus quelques mois après leur mémorable premier nonos Metal Will Stand Tall. Cette fois ci, le morceau de barbaque s’intitule Sweet Trade. Qu’est ce nos joyeux cabots nous ont concocté pour cette ultime pâtée ? On ne change pas une recette qui fonctionne, THE POODLES se complaisent dans leur Hard Rock FM mignonnet et obtiennent du succès auprès des chiennes suédoises. Que demander de plus ? Un paillasson peut-être ?
Pourtant il semble acquis que les Suédois aient augmenté le niveau et poussé leurs amplis sur la touche 6 du trebble au lieu de 4. Héritiers d’une certaine façon de leurs compères d’EUROPE, THE POODLES semble s’être nourrit de cette époque fastueuse des années 80 pour concocter ses morceaux déjà plus rentre dedans que dans le premier opus. À vrai dire, on ne les croyait pas capables de ça mais THE POODLES signent des titres énergiques et pompeux dans le plus pur style du combo tels que «Streets of Fire», «Seven Seas». Les refrains fédérateurs, marque de cet Hard Rock Glam, font un tabac tout du long de l’opus.
Les riffs se font ainsi plus rageurs et ardents, les guitares sont plus mordantes et le cabotin Jakob Samuel prend un malin plaisir de chiens à déclamer ses refrains unificateurs. Le caniche montre les crocs, on dirait. Ça commence à faire peur cette affaire.
De plus, un plus grand recours aux claviers est audible sur ce Sweet Trade comme sur «Thunderball» alors qu’un titre comme «Reach the Sky» reste tout de même incroyablement pompé sur BON JOVI. On croyait qu’ils allaient les oublier, mais les ballades à gogo sont à ramasser à la pelle (comme la merde de caniche) : «Without You» mais surtout «We Are One» pourrait très bien remplacer dans les cœurs des coquines auditrices le titre culte «Carrie» de la bande de Joey Tempest.
Sincèrement, THE POODLES est un groupe qui aurait du vivre 20 ans en arrière mais qui n’aurait de toute façon pas pu tirer son épingle du jeu tant la concurrence à l’époque était féroce. Néanmoins, on sent du mieux dans cette gamelle. Le combo remonte la pente. Le maître est content. Toutou commence à remuer la queue. Continue comme ça mon petit caniche.
