HEMLOCK, où comment il ne se faut pas se fier à l’apparence si l’on veut réellement découvrir les talents cachés. Non parce qu’il faut bien être honnête, la pochette de Bleed The Dream pue des pieds. On dirait une affiche d’un film de série Z cent fois pire que Bad Taste. Bref, ça donne pas franchement envie de se pencher sur l’écoute de ce CD. Et pourtant, la musique de HEMLOCK mérite qu’on s’y arrête. Cela ressemble à un mélange entre du Hardcore et du Metal. Certaines mauvaises langues diront que c’est du Metalcore, mais point du tout. Seule une toute petite dérive se fait sentir sur « The Platinum Lie », mais sinon, c’est vraiment un mélange entre HxC pur et dur et Metal sans concession et sans voix claires post-ado pour atténuer la rage des membres.
Personnellement, j’ai trouvé que le disque tendant plus souvent vers le Hardcore, comme on peut le voir avec le titre « My Eyes Itch ». Ça, c’est pour la base. Après, de nombreuses interventions Metal viennent agrémenter cette bonne base pour relever la saveur et titiller les papilles auditives. Quelques surprises parsèment les morceaux, même si on ne peut pas dire que le groupe nous prenne à contre-pied tout le temps. Mais, sur « My Eyes Itch », encore lui, le break où la basse est seule et où les autres membres rentrent progressivement pour repartir de plus belle est vraiment un bon moment, surprenant. De la même manière, les « Yah ah ah ah » et autres « Wah ah ah ah » sur « Crooked Smile » cassent encore un peu plus l’image du groupe pour prouver qu’ils sont capables d’expérimentations étranges mais bien senties. On regrettera juste des breaks de batterie incertains sur certains morceaux où la reprise après un pont de toms est parfois bancale. Mais cela colle plutôt bien avec la production générale de l’album, plus proche du Thrash Old School à petits moyens que des grosses superproductions actuelles.
Si vous voulez découvrir un groupe prometteur et voulez bien passer outre la pochette dégueulasse, HEMLOCK est fait pour vous. Ça dépote comme il faut et vous refait une coupe façon tondeuse à poils de bite par la même occasion.
