Ah, REMEMBRANCE … Si les souvenirs de votre serviteur sont bons, ils s’agit d’une des chansons disponibles sur le mythique Icon de PARADISE LOST, ce qui nous ramène en 1993 quand même … D’entrée une référence de ce type place la barre très haute et rien que de voir qu’à peine 6 titres génèrent 43 minutes de musique, je me mets à rêver d’une longue envolée vers le summum du Doom (oui parce que là on parle bien de Doom, pas de Gothique) avec ce Silencing The Moments. Qui plus est, REMEMBRANCE est un groupe français, un binôme lillois plus exactement, composé des multi-instrumentistes Carline Van Roos (claviers, chants, batterie, basse) et Matthieu Sachs (guitares, chants).
Autant vous dire sans plus attendre que la déception est à la hauteur de mon enthousiasme. Trop triste ? Trop sombre ? Trop lent ? Dès « Death Diaries » (deuxième complainte), je suis navré de décrocher … Et je comprends alors pourquoi les compos de REMEMBRANCE atteignent aisément les 10 minutes. Tous les éléments du Doom sont exploités à outrance : la fin de chaque mesure met dix plombes à tomber, les accords de piano, aux sonorités pourtant si macabres comme je les aime, se succèdent avec le suspense des meilleurs épisodes de Derrick. Courageusement, je tente de relancer le skeud dans mon mange disque, j’écoute, je tente de m’accrocher … je lutte …….. Oh putain excusez moi je me suis encore endormi !!!
Rien à faire, REMEMBRANCE n’a pas trouvé le bon avocat avec moi. A vouloir en faire trop, l’ennui pointe le bout de son nez et vous assomme comme un bon mélange alcoolisé de fêtes de fin d’années, le genre Whisky / Sauterne / Cahors / Petite Prune, vous voyez le tableau ? Oh zut, je viens de me rendre compte que j’ai fait un rapprochement douteux entre la tisane et un groupe venu du Nord de la France, par les temps qui courent, les Ch’tis vaut mieux être gentil avec eux. N’empêche, dois-je mettre cette profonde désillusion sur le compte de la fatigue ? A la limite, certains verront chez REMEMBRANCE une certaine forme de génie, l’art de dépeindre un tableau sombre, froid, inerte, mort.
Pour ma part, si l’ennui était un disque, ce serait Silencing The Moments.
