BRAIN DRILL a été formé pendant l’été 2005 par Dylan Ruskin à la guitare, il fut rejoint peu de temps après par Marco Pitruzzella, ancien batteur de VITAL REMAINS et de VILE, et Steve Rathjen comme chanteur qui fut rapidement remplacé juste après l’enregistrement de leur premier EP par Andre Cornejo, le chanteur de DEAD SYNDICATE. Ensuite Jeff Hughell rejoint le groupe vers la fin 2006 au poste de bassiste, et c’est là que tout s’accélère… Andre Cornejo n’assura qu’un bref passage car quelques mois après il fut remplacé par le chanteur d’origine... (vous connaissez la saga Dallas ??) et donc voici que ces barbares propose leur premier enregistrement en ce début 2008 via Metal Blade.
Fini les présentations : amateur de violence, de brutalité, de technique… BRAIN DRILL ne fait pas dans les comptines pour enfants. Au menu du gros Death Metal Technique ultra brutal et démonstratif, au total 10 chansons pour moins de trente cinq minutes…
Après une courte intro de quelques secondes, voici un déluge de violence, de haine et surtout de technique, voilà qui pourrait être la fiche de présentation de ce premier album… je comprends mieux pourquoi ALEX WEBSTER de CANNIBAL CORPSE a déclaré dans une interview, que BRAIN DRILL est un groupe « plutôt barjo » ! Il se sert de ses expériences de scènes au coté de CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS ou NECROPHAGIST pour s’affirmer avec ce Apocalyptic Festing totalement dévastateur.
Son objectif est de repousser les limites du Death Metal extrême et il y arrive. BRAIN DRILL n’est pas un précurseur ou un innovateur, mais seulement des exécuteurs au sein d’une boucherie maladive. Apocalyptic Festing n’est pas taillé dans la dentelle, c’est de la brutalité à l’état primaire, une course à la rapidité, à la violence, à la maltraitance des cages à miel… je n’ai rarement entendu quelque chose d’aussi violent comme ce « Gorification » monstrueux ! Death Metal jusqu’au bout des guitares, Grind dans l’âme, Gore et dévastateur à souhait, brutal plus qu’il n’en faut, et malheureusement un peu défaillant à cause de la démonstration technique un peu trop présente par moment, comme sur le début de « Bury The Living ».
Doté d’une production irréprochable, BRAIN DRILL jouit d’un gros son, compact et puissant qui mets en avant chaque musicien. Dans son style, cela va être difficile voir impossible de faire mieux, pour un premier album, le groupe a mis la barre très haut : en plein dans le crâne explosé de ceux qui osent écouter cet obus.
