« Tout à fond. Le Rock c’est tout à fond. » commençaient LES WAMPAS sur leur album Les Wampas… vous aiment. Je ne suis pas certain que les membres de BURNING SKIES connaissent ce groupe, mais ils appliquent en tous cas parfaitement leur maxime. Parce qu’une fois qu’on a mis un pied dans Greed.Filth.Abuse.Corruption, c’est comme Space Mountain, on ne peut plus descendre avant la fin. Et tant pis si ce n’était pas le train que vous vouliez prendre et si vos tripes vous font un joli collier suintant.
Avec ce troisième album, le groupe prouve une nouvelle fois qu’il est capable de pratiquer un matraquage de tronche dans les règles de l’art. Ça blaste à tout va. Ça hurle dans tous les coins. Et ça vomit une violence viscérale. D’ailleurs, j’ai encore des morceaux de bile qui coulent des oreilles. La musique varie entre des choses très délicates comme le Death, le Grind et le Hardcore. Juste de quoi agrémenter la séance de thé entre voisins et amis, le petit doigt en l’air, siouplé. Du côté du Hardcore, c’est assez léger sur l’ensemble, les parties speed et brutales se taillant la part belle. Mais on peut déceler quelques bonnes mosh parts de ci de là. Sinon, c’est la tête baissée et le nez dans le guidon qu’on s’enfile les riffs dévastateurs. Côté voix, Merv alterne growl, hurlements et cris porcins pour casser la monotonie qui aurait pu s’installer. Il maîtrise bien sa partie et c’est d’ailleurs grâce à lui qu’on ne sombre pas parfois. Parce que niveau musique, ça éclate, c’est sûr, mais ce n’est pas très varié. Entre « Warhate » et « To Be The Man Who Has To Beat The Man », c’est simple, on passe d’un morceau à l’autre sans le savoir. La première pause arrive vraiment parce que l’intro de « Spat Out And Stamped On » possède un blanc. Sinon, ils auraient capable de nous faire l’album en apnée. Une autre pause, dont le titre est évocateur de l’esprit du groupe, « It’S Hard To Breathe With A Bag On Your Head », qui est un intermède contenant des bruits étranges. Et puis, ça repart jusqu’à la fin, comme au début.
Malgré de bonnes idées, Greed.Filth.Abuse.Corruption est beaucoup trop compact à mon sens. D’un autre côté, sa courte durée en fait un album qui s’écoute rapidement. Et, à la longue, ça passe de mieux en mieux. Personnellement, j’avais préféré Desolation, l’album précédent. Mais je sais déjà par avance que Greed.Filth.Abuse.Corruption trouvera sans problème son public.
