The Last Sucker était le dernier album de MINISTRY, mais le gars Jourgensen ne pouvait pas vraiment nous laisser comme ça, la bite à la main. Aussi, il nous gratifie d’une dernière galette sous le nom de MINISTRY AND CO-CONSPIRATORS. Non, ce n’est pas la même chose que MINISTY… enfin, si un peu. Même son cradingue, même voix saturée de partout, même envie d’en découdre, même si les morceaux ne sont pas d’Al, cette fois. En effet, c’est dans la reprise que l’on va retrouver cet aliéné de l’Indus. Et il y a quelques surprises dans les morceaux choisis pour être interprétées. Ce ne seront pas que reprises Punk ou Metal. Ça lorgne plutôt vers le Rock ou le Pop Rock. Bref, ça surprend. Al Jourgensen n’a plus rien à perdre, aussi il peut se lancer sans filet pour le rattraper, il s’en bat les couettes.
A mon sens, les deux morceaux les plus intéressants sont le premier et le dernier, mais ce n’est qu’un avis personnel. « Under My Thumb », de THE ROLLING STONES est un bon morceau Indus avec une bonne grosse gratte et de petites notes électroniques qui viennent agrémenter le tout. Ça bouge bien comme il faut et ça allèche pour la suite. Malheureusement le reste est un peu plus classique et de l’Indus ne restera presque que la boite à rythmes. Heureusement, arrive à la fin « What A Wonderful World ». Ce morceau mondialement connu et utilisé dans nombre de films (de Good Morning Vietnam en passant par le film d’animation Madagascar) possède deux facettes (qui seront d’ailleurs séparées dans des pistes « cachées » par la suite). La première est une phase lente, assez fidèle à la version d’origine, même si Al n’a pas vraiment la voix qui va bien pour la chanter. Malgré tout, le résultat est plaisant. La seconde moitié de la chanson la présente en version Punk rapide. Là, c’est plus la version défouloir faite pour se faire plaisir.
Entre ces deux morceaux, on trouve de tout. Du ZZ TOP, du RAM JAM, du DEEP PURPLE, du THE DOORS… Peut-être est-il mieux de connaître bien les versions originales pour apprécier les reprises. Pour ma part, elles m’ont laissé un goût d’inachevé. Je resterai donc sur la bonne impression que m’a faite The Last Sucker.
