En Finlande, fait pas chaud, alors on se réchauffe comme on peut. Je ne parle pas ici de sauna-hammam à 75 balles, où de vieux hommes d’affaires reluquent de jolies et fraîches jeunes filles avec une serviette sur les parties intimes (quoique dans un sauna, plus rien n’est intime !), mais bien de locaux de répétition, ou de braves musiciens bravent le climat en faisant exploser les décibels. Et point question ici de Black-Metal paillard ou nihiliste, on parle musique les gars !
Un simple coup d’œil au booklet du CD suffit à comprendre que le look n’est pas la préoccupation principale de FALL OF THE LEAFE, mais bien la musique. Et ça tombe bien, puisque c’est le sujet !
Que dire de Aerolithe ? Du mal, sûrement pas, mais un peu de pondération dans l’enthousiasme sera de mise.
Je n’ai certes pas eu l’impression d’écouter un mauvais album, mais je n’ai pas non plus été submergé par l’euphorie, digne de toute sortie surprenante par sa qualité et son sens de l’innovation.
La musique proposée est de qualité, impeccablement exécutée, servie par un chant modulé, et nappée d’arrangements divers aérant l’ensemble. Je ne suis pas capable objectivement de formuler quelconque grief, et pourtant quelque chose me gêne.
Certes, l’ambiance dégagée par « At A Breath’s Pace » est touchante, et les riffs sauvages, « Graceful Retreat » est puissante à souhait, les changements d’humeur sur « Minor Nuisance » séduisants, l’intéressante intro de « Look Into Me » s’écrase sur un tempo agressif à souhait, mais décidément il manque…un chouia d’audace, qui aurait pu hisser FOTL à la hauteur d’un groupe comme WASTEFALL par exemple.
On a trop l’impression d’écouter un groupe de Néo-Metal US qui aurait ajouté des ingrédients européens à sa musique.
Et puisque l’heure des reproches est arrivée, le son de clavier est horripilant, et la voix du chanteur trop monocorde, et lassante à la longue.
Mais malgré cela, je persiste à dire que l’ensemble n’est pas inintéressant, et mérite votre attention.
Une prise de risque supplémentaire ne saurait nuire à ce groupe, qui est capable de proposer une musique moins tiède, et plus novatrice. Ils ont les armes pour ça.
Peut être devrait ils traîner un peu plus souvent dans les saunas-hammams à 75 balles…
