AEVLORD (FRA) - History Of A New Mankind (2007)

Il y a des situations comme ça, qui peuvent vous mettre mal à l’aise… chroniquer ce premier album d’AEVLORD en fait partie. D’abord parce que ce combo, mené par le claviériste du même nom, est un groupe français, et qu’en bon Gaulois chauvin, on a envie de les défendre, de les propulser sur les devants de la scène, de les faire monter en Première Division, sans que ça traîne. Et depuis la mise en stand-bye d’ANOREXIA NERVOSIA, on sent comme un vide dans le Black symphonique Made In France. Alors, vous pensez donc, un nouveau petit groupe bien de chez nous qui se lance après une première démo autoproduite (Welcome To My Kingdom, en 2004), ça excite !
Gros hic : on a beau vouloir leur apporter un soutien conséquent, l’écoute de cette première galette, Hystory Of A New Mankind, refroidit un petit peu l’enthousiasme initial. A la base, le concept développé par Aevlord (le leader, donc) paraît intéressant voire audacieux : proposer à l’auditeur un Black Metal symphonique avec des parties de claviers largement mises en avant. Franchement j’ai réécouté hier (juste après ce History Of A New Mankind) deux œuvres majeures du Grand Wagner, Le Vaisseau Fantôme et Le Crépuscule des Dieux, et il est clair qu’il n’y a pas besoin de guitares pour faire ressortir des ambiances sombres et ténébreuses. Mais tout le monde n’est pas Wagner, et ceci est encore une autre histoire…
Le contraste est saisissant entre un combo de Black symphonique qui maitrise son sujet et la musique d’AEVLORD, qui manque paradoxalement d’ampleur. Un titre comme « Doomed World » résume à lui seul toute la problématique : aussi doué soit-il aux claviers (le garçon a un niveau impressionnant, d’ailleurs ses camarades ne sont pas manchots non plus), Aevlord ne doit absolument pas s’enfermer dans ses convictions de musicien. Vous vous souvenez l’ambiance du générique des « Contes de la Crypte » ? Sans que cela soit insultant, il faut avouer que l’atmosphère de Hystory Of A New Mankind s’en rapproche… dangereusement. Aussi, chaque titre est peut-être trop chargé en rebondissements, au risque de rendre trop complexe un style qui l’est déjà bien assez. Et 12 titres, non, c’est trop. Dommage, car le tout a été enregistré aux prestigieux studios Guillaume Tell (en France) et la prod est largement à la hauteur. D’habitude, c’est la prod qui peut desservir la musique, là on assiste à un autre phénomène : à vouloir en faire des tonnes, AEVLORD nous empêche de savourer, c’est frustrant !!!
AEVLORD a encore bien du chemin à parcourir, bien qu’il s’agisse ici du premier jet d’une jeune carrière discographique (que l’on souhaite voir s’allonger bien entendu). Le potentiel est là mais il faudra mieux l’exploiter à l’avenir, parce qu’on ne voudrait pas qu’AEVLOR disparaisse aussi vite qu’un zyzomys en Australie… Enfin, dernier point sensible : AEVLORD vient de perdre son batteur, Oeyj, et cherche son remplaçant. Alors amis batteurs, ne laissez pas tomber ce groupe qui, un jour (ou plutôt lors d’une nuit glaciale et noire), nous balancera un chef d’œuvre. On l’espère en tous cas.
