UNLIGHT est une horde de Black Metal allemande qui sort sont un album intitulé Eldest Born Of Hell. Pour ceux qui –comme moi- n’ont jamais entendu parler de ce groupe, UNLIGHT s’est formé en octobre 1997 dans la petite ville de Klettgau, est a sorti quelques enregistrement avant ce Eldest Born Of Hell. Après une première démo en 1999, le groupe autoproduit son premier disque : The Nordic Stormbringer. Le groupe signe un deal avec Heavy Horses Records qui sort l’album Inferno uniquement pressé à 1000 exemplaires. Après un split avec le groupe NORDAFROST sorti l’année dernière, UNLIGHT bat le fer tant qu’il est encore chaud et voici donc son troisième opus longue durée.
La musique du groupe peut être résumé en un Black Metal satanique mixé avec de grosses influences Thrash et de Metal traditionnel. Rien de bien extraordinaire dans tout ça et cela se confirme sur les titres de l’album. La production trop propre et par moments faible n’arrange pas la chose. UNLIGHT n’a pas inventé l’eau chaude et joue un Black/Thrash basique aux tempos démentiels !
Accompagnés de tempos dévastateurs, les titres veulent être violents, mais la volonté ne suffit pas malgré une performance remarquable du chanteur. Après une intro d’un classicisme navrant, les morceaux n’arrivent pas à décoller, les riffs de guitares sont glaciaux, dans la tradition des groupes venant du grand nord, mais il manque un petit quelque chose pour faire prendre la mayonnaise. Le souci avec ce genre d’album est que l’on a toujours la fâcheuse impression de déjà entendu, comme le titre « The Silent Dead » qui n’est pas mauvais au contraire, mais qui me semble familier.
Souvent répétitifs, les riffs de guitares sont inspirés malgré leur redondance et leur similitude avec les autres titres de l’album. On a donc du mal à différencier les titres qui composent Eldest Born Of Hell. Il est difficile de décerner les morceaux « Retribution For The Witches » et « Eldest Born Of Hell » tant ils sont semblables. Il faut noter que les morceaux vont directement à l’essentiel sans s’encombrer d’intros inutiles. Eldest Born Of Hell est une usine de riffs Thrash à la sauce Black, sauf pour le titre « March Of The Funeral God » qui n’a pas ce coté Thrash, mais plus Heavy/Black mélodique.
L’album fini avec la sympathique et réussie reprise de SODOM « Wachturm » qui devrait servir de lamparo pour appâter les amateurs de musique extrême…
