EIBON / HANGMAN’S CHAIR (FRA) - Split CD (2007)

Quatre morceaux, deux groupes. Il s’agit donc bel et bien d’un Split CD. Le label Bones Brigades Records, une fois sorti des sentiers battus, nous propose une fois n’est pas coutume un nouveau produit composé de deux formations françaises issus de la scène Sludge Doom de notre beau pays en ce moment de liesse populaire à l’heure de la coupe du monde de rugby. Faisons dès à présent les présentations rapides du premier combo : EIBON est pour ainsi dire un quatuor de Sludge/Doom Rock comprenant notamment dans ses rangs des membres de DROWNING. Le combo n’a enregistré que ces deux titres sur ce split CD avec HANGMAN’S CHAIR. Si cela intéresse quelqu’un, ces deux morceaux furent enregistré et mixé en juillet 2006 au Floxxsound. Il incombe ainsi à EIBON de déclarer les hostilités. At my signal, unleash Hell !!
Le groupe ressemble en de nombreux points aux formations de Sludge des Etats-Unis (C.O.C., DOWN) avec ce son poisseux, pesant et ses rythmiques sous acides carabinées. Lancinantes et maculées de crasse, les compositions de EIBON sont synonymes d’efficacité et bien produites, la production mettant en valeur l’ambiance de bayou rongé par les larves et les lombrics. Le chant tirant sur des phrasés parfois Black Metal enjolive cette atmosphère de putréfaction et de pourrissement. Spéciale mention à «Enslaved by Abyssal Torments», titre de Doom pourri jusqu’à l’os ! EIBON, à défaut d’être le saint patron de l’originalité se caractérise par une maîtrise sans faille de son univers et de son panel artistique. De bon augure pour le futur.
La seconde partie de cette galette poisseuse revient à HANGMAN’S CHAIR qui est né des cendres du combo parisien ES LA GUERILLA et est nettement plus axé vers le Stoner que son prédécesseur. Il s’agit là également de leurs premières compositions enregistrées chez Bones Brigades Records en attendant la sortie de leur premier album intitulé (A Lament For)…The Addicts. Volontiers moites, malsaines et lourdes, les cadences s’accordent en parfaite harmonie avec les thèmes abordés par le groupe. Comme feu ES LA GUERILLA, ceux-ci abordent des thèmes comme la drogue et la dépression retranscrites sur les deux morceaux fournis, «Appetite For Self Destruction» et «The Gateway». En gros, HANGMAN’S CHAIR livre un Rock grassouillet, sorte de mélange de BLACK SABBATH et de LYNYRD SKYNYRD pour le côté boueux sudiste version Nouvelle Orléans.
Dans un autre style que EIBON, les franciliens réussissent leur pari et parviennent à faire adhérer l’auditeur à leur univers pesant et lourd moralement. Bien en place musicalement, il n’en demeure pas moins qu’il reste difficile de se faire une idée définitive, seule l’écoute de leur premier opus pourra fournir une opinion plus juste et objective sur la qualité musicale de HANGMAN’ S CHAIR.
