Avis aux fidèles lecteurs de ce magnifique webzine qu’est Metal-Impact, après leur démo 2006 chroniquée sur ce site, 7 WEEKS nous offre un EP de huit titres qui ne fait que confirmer tout le bien que je pense de ce groupe. L’inspiration est toujours aussi variée, l’interprétation impeccable, et la musique chatoyante, enjouée, mais sérieusement rock. Certains licks de guitare rappellent effectivement les STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, le coté mélodique les FOO, et le rythme régulier MOTORHEAD.
Mais faisant fi de ces influences 7 WEEKS insuffle aussi son propre style dans sa musique, ce qui la rend particulièrement attachante.
En exemple, écoutez attentivement « B(l)ack Days » ou encore « Shadows » et sa mélodie discrète mais finement ciselée pour s’incruster dans votre cerveau. « The Score » n’est pas en reste avec son up-tempo endiablé et sa ligne de basse en croches ininterrompue, son riff pataud qui colle aux cheveux, et son refrain entêtant.
« Waiting For The Resurrection » et ses fréquentes cassures de rythme donne du dynamisme à l’affaire, et on retrouve un climat cher à Josh HOMME, tandis que « Down » mérite bien son nom, tant elle évoque des paysages déjà explorés par Phil ANSELMO et Peeper KEENAN. Le final « In The Name Of God » permet de constater à quel point le groupe place la barre haute tant la maîtrise impressionne.
Certes, je vous ai déjà fait l’éloge de pas mal de ces morceaux, puisqu’ils figuraient déjà sur leur démo, mais on les retrouve ici avec plaisir, et il n’est pas inutile d’y refaire allusion tant 7 WEEKS mérite votre soutien.
Le point fort du groupe, en dehors du fait qu’ils pratiquent une musique fabuleuse, interprétée impeccablement et avec conviction, réside dans la voix de Julien, fort bien placée, et aux tonalités chaudes et pleines de tranchant. Avoir un bon chanteur qui chante juste et bien est un atout indéniable.
Et des atouts, 7 WEEKS n’en manque pas.
