Le Black Metal français peut il être compétitif sur la scène internationale, sachant que notre beau pays a au moins 10 voire 15 ans de retard sur la Suède, ou la Norvège? Il est difficile de concurrencer ses voisins, surtout lorsque l’on prend en compte la production pléthorique du genre depuis la moitié des années 90. Essayer de concurrencer MAYHEM, DARKTHRONE ou encore CRADLE OF FILTH dans une moindre mesure s’avérerait complètement stupide, tant ces groupes ont contribué à anoblir le genre auprès du public, et surtout, ont vécu ses prémices avant tout le monde.
La France n’est pas la Finlande, le climat n’est bien sur pas le même, et la religion n’est plus un problème majeur depuis longtemps par chez nous. Alors inutile de jouer un théâtre de la peur de pacotille, le manque de crédibilité confinant dans ces cas la au ridicule. Et ça, MALLEUS MALEFICARUM l’a très bien compris. Certes, les pseudos sont là, la noirceur musicale aussi, mais cela tient plus de la figure imposée que du charlatanisme. Les musiciens ont été clairs, ils ne sont pas satanistes, ni néo-nazis (un courant nauséabond dont on ferait bien de se débarrasser au plus vite !), juste nihilistes, pessimistes, lucides en quelque sorte. Et qu’ils ont raison !
Se situant dans la lignée de leurs productions antérieures, Nothing Left To Fight For est un petit bijou, n’ayons pas peur des mots. La musique est intelligente, alternant les climats, soufflant le froid et le chaud, et diablement bien produite. Les titres se succèdent sans lasser, et j’avoue que la seconde moitié de l’album s’approche dangereusement de la perfection. De l’interlude acoustique oppressant « Les Vestiges De Mon amertume », en passant par les 7 minutes éprouvantes de « Ecorchés » et son final hurlé à glacer le sang, « …la Perversion Comme Représentation » et ses relents délicieusement électro, la lourdeur extrême de « Deviant », jusqu’à « Nothing Left To Fight For » et son cri d’intro sorti tout droit d’un de vos pires cauchemars, MALLEUS MALEFICARUM n’a rien laissé au hasard et c’est tant mieux. On est loin maintenant du petit groupe anecdotique de l’époque Heic Noenum Pax, qui me laissait présager un split rapide et bienvenu, le groupe s’est débarrassé des scories encombrantes et vogue maintenant fièrement vers des horizons sombres, mais là est leur volonté. Ils ont transcendé le style pour se l’approprier, et c’est là la plus belle preuve de créativité.
Nothing Left To Fight For est une réussite totale. Et c’est un fan de BATHORY depuis 1985 qui vous le dit. Rien de moins.
