Jusqu’à présent, je n’avais que peu de clémence pour les groupes privilégiant l’attitude à la créativité. J’ai descendu plus bas que l’enfer certains « artistes » se réclamant plus du sacro-saint Dieu dollar que de la muse de la poésie. J’allais faire de même avec DROP DEAD GORGEOUS. Je n’allais pas me tromper.
Oh, pas de grosse boulette, non, un jugement très objectif plutôt. Le genre de chronique qu’on fait à 17H30 de l’après midi, quand on a chaud et qu’on sue comme un goret, mais qu’on doit impérativement avancer dans le taf pour le site.
On écoute le début avec minutie, on prépare les cartouches, prêt à cliquer sur la touche stop…et on fait l’effort d’aller plus loin. Mal m’en a pris. DROP DEAD GORGEOUS voit son deuxième effort édité par les bons soins de Rise Records, avec en prime, rien. Ca pue l’arnaque, mais ça ne mange pas de pain.
Le premier morceau de In Vogue fait penser à du vieux KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. Y’a pire. Mais les deux titres suivants suintent le néo-Metal bon marché, comme le pratiquent au kilomètre nombres de groupes US. « Well, I Never… », le premier morceau correct, à le refrain qui tue et des arrangements rythmiques créatifs, « Knife Vs Face Round 1 » envoie la sauce sur un refrain assez sympathique. « Are You Happy », malgré son titre ne doit rien aux hippies, mais sniffe bon le power-core qui louche sur le HC déstructuré, façon CANDIRIA.
Le reste n’est que soupe Metal-core bien gluante, avec chanteur qui une fois de plus cogne comme un âne, mais a laissé le feeling au vestiaire (n’est ce pas Gérard ?), double pédale à fond les manettes, gros riffs de la mort, et originalité laissée enfermée dans le placard à double tour, des fois qu’elle se barre en douce.
Alors, un peu plus tard dans l’après midi, la chronique presque bouclée, un peu plus suintant, on se rend compte que finalement, il n’aurait pas été juste de bâcler le travail. Car DROP DEAD GORGEOUS n’a fait aucun effort pour se démarquer du reste de la production Metal-core US du moment. Ca ne mérite pas quelques minutes sous la douche en moins.
Pour quelques titres anodins de plus…et l’après midi cuisante comme purgatoire.
