Résumé des épisodes précédents : XANDRIA est un groupe Allemand à chanteuse qui aimerait bien avoir autant de succès que THEATRE OF TRAGEDY. Après deux albums séduisants mais manquant de singularité pour se faire véritablement remarquer, le groupe passe aux choses sérieuses et sort l’artillerie lourde (on peut faire confiance aux Allemands sur ce point), avec India, XANDRIA accumule les singles et commence à se faire remarquer.
Salomé s’inscrit dans cette logique. Comme toujours, on ne peut que trouver des qualités à cet album et en conclure que XANDRIA est un groupe intéressant. Tout débute par l’énorme « Save My Life », mélodie agréable, refrain renversant et en prime un joli break, c’est cadeau, ça me fait plaisir. Hélas, ça retombe aussitôt, avec « Vampire ». On s’attendait à du Goth, raté, c’est de l’Oriental. Et du mauvais ! Car tout est à revoir : riff d’une platitude incroyable et refrain chiant. Et l’on se souvient alors que le principal défaut du groupe était l’irrégularité ; le meilleur a toujours côtoyé le pire sans que personne n’ait eu l’idée de faire le tri. Et bien le tri, on va le faire nous. Donc « Vampire », poubelle. Heureusement il y a de quoi se satisfaire avec « Beware » et « Emotional Man » qui reluquent du côté de TOT avec le même esprit Goth/Pop. La ballade « Salomé » n’est pas révolutionnaire et les passages orientaux sont un peu téléphonés mais ça s’écoute. « Only For The Stars In Your Eyes » est plus Rock, elle fait penser à THE 69 EYES. « Firestorm » est davantage lyrique avec, là encore des accents orientaux. « A New Age » et la ballade soporifique « The Wind And The Ocean », poubelle. « Sisters Of The Light » est un single potentiel avec un refrain accrocheur et des sonorités Dance. Pour compenser, on enchaîne sur les riffs de « Sleeping Dogs Life » et un chant lyrique, plutôt agréable. Et on poursuit dans le lyrique avec « On My Way » qui ferme cet album.
Au final, pas grand-chose à jeter, mais encore une fois XANDRIA livre une œuvre inégale, avec de très bons morceaux (à condition d’aimer le mélange Goth/Pop/lyrique) puis quelques titres agréables mais dispensables. L’écoute de Salomé sera globalement agréable pour ceux qui apprécient les mélodies, les refrains accrocheurs et qui n’ont pas peur de se frotter à la Pop ou aux passages lyriques.
