La première chose qui frappe les oreilles quand on se met dans l’écoute de Intersections, c’est la qualité de l’ensemble, aussi bien au niveau de la production, professionnelle, que de la composition, qui ne souffre pas de véritable défaut. Et puis, c’est aussi cette volonté de construire l’ensemble de l’album comme une bande originale de film (jusqu’à la pochette qui est celle d’un film) ; sans réel fil conducteur qui relierait les morceaux mais avec le sentiment qu’ils appartiennent tous à un tout et qu’en enlever un ne pourrait pas être concevable. L’impression de les voir tous défiler sous nos yeux à travers une moviola grâce à laquelle on pourrait les scruter et les savourer.
On commence l’album avec un morceau assez rock et entraînant (« Core »). Malgré tout, on sent aussi l’expérimentation des sonorités derrière. Puis arrivent des morceaux qui laisseront peut-être derrière eux des purs et durs metalleux, mais qui prendront par la main ceux avides de nouvelles sensations et de nouvelles expérimentations pour les emmener vers des océans où l’on plane totalement, se laissant complètement guider par la musique. Non, décidément, Antoine, le papa d’ELVIN ROAD, ne laisse pas indifférent et ne fait pas les choses à moitié. On retrouve vraiment de tout dans cet album. On peut même entendre un morceau qui n’aurait pas fait tâche dans la Bande Originale de AKIRA (« Nightdrive »). Je pense surtout aux sonorités organiques qu’on y entend. « Prophecy » comblera à nouveau les amateurs de guitares distordues, même s’il faut quand même y chercher autre chose qu’un morceau à pogo. D’ailleurs, la voix de femme en introduction le fait sentir clairement. Et pourtant, c’est un morceau vraiment sublime, d’ambiance.
Que ce soient rock, electro ou même classiques, les influences sont nombreuses dans cet album. Et le mélange est parfaitement maîtrisé, sans fausse note. Pourquoi alors ne pas mettre une note plus « parfaite » à cet album ? Tout simplement parce qu’il est composé comme une bande originale. Il plaira beaucoup en musique de fond et saura faire s’évader les gens qui en ont besoin, mais il ne pourra sûrement pas devenir un disque de chevet de par son côté sans paroles et sa trop grande variété de styles.
Toutefois, je maintiens qu’ELVIN ROAD est un groupe/concept à suivre de très près, parce qu’Antoine a encore de nombreuses surprises à nous dévoiler, j’en suis persuadé.
