Il est de coutume de dire que plus les musiciennes sont jolies, plus leur musique est nulle, surfaite, ou encore composée et jouée par un tiers. Les exemples sont légion, de Kim WILDE à VIXEN, en passant par DRAIN STH. Le punk rock ne fait pas exception à la règle, les sex symbols se faisant rare dans ce milieu. Les représentantes féminines préférant avoir l’air de garçons manqués et être prises au sérieux plutôt que d’être belles et dénigrées. Cet état de fait changera peut être avec THE TOMMYS, tant le ramage s’accorde au plumage. Leur démo trois titres à de quoi séduire, des morceaux simples mais accrocheurs, un son très correct, bien meilleurs que certains albums officiels, une inspiration très seventies, et une envie de jouer qui se sent même en studio.
La variété des trois morceaux proposés est évidente, de l’énergique et accrocheur « Fresh Meat » qui ouvre la démo, en passant par le mid tempo « Gagged And Bound », jusqu’à « Kamino » qui dynamite tout ce qui bouge, véritable single potentiel qui pourrait exploser les charts anglais avec son refrain entêtant.
Non, franchement je ne vois là que matière à s’éclater sur de la bonne musique, joué simplement, mais précisément, car le punk rock, bien avant d’être une attitude, c’est d’abord un son, un jeu, et THE TOMMYS ont déjà tout compris à ce niveau.
Si les demoiselles passent près de chez vous, ne manquez pas le rendez vous, car vos oreilles seront rassasiées de bon feeling old school, et vos yeux émerveillés par tant de charme (mention spéciale à Stevie, la guitariste, véritable petite poupée !).
