Nouveau label pour les allemands d’OBSCURITY qui viennent de sortir leur troisième album chez Massacre Records. Apparemment cette signature leur est bénéfique au niveau promotion car je dois avouer n’avoir jamais entendu parler de ce groupe et avoir eu quelques difficultés à trouver des critiques françaises de leurs précédents albums.
« Schlachten & Legenden », « Batailles et Légendes » pour ceux qui comme moi ne parlent pas spécialement la langue de Goethe, est un album de Black Viking de très bonne facture. Musicalement, on n’est pas éloigné des ténors du genre, comme AMON AMARTH pour ne citer qu’eux. Le côté Black développé ici apporte une dimension plus subtile à la musique, de même qu’une certaine recherche (ou une recherche certaine ?) rythmique permet de capter l’attention de l’auditeur. Et aussi chose rare, la plupart des textes sont en allemand, ce qui passe étonnamment bien d’ailleurs. Puisant son inspiration dans le folklore germanique, OBSCURITY propose des morceaux épiques, puissants, oscillants entre passages rapides et d’autres plus lourds. Ca bourrine sec du début à la fin, comme des gros chevelus démontés à l’hydromel, image commune dans ce style. Mais c’est là peut être que le bas blesse. Un sujet aussi vaste que les contes et légendes teutonnes pourrait permettre de varier les propos, et essayer de développer les ambiances (quelques intermèdes instrumentaux disséminés par-ci par-là) aurait pu permettre à ce Schlachten & Legenden de respirer un peu plus. Bon c’est histoire de chipoter, parce que tout l’album reste diablement efficace.
