Avant d’entamer la chronique proprement dite, je dois d’abord dire qu’il n’y a rien de plus pénible que de faire la review d’un album, lorsque les titres de celui-ci sont tronqués de 30 à 40 secondes ! Franchement parfois, ça donne envie d’arrêter le boulot, et de balancer une critique lapidaire, non pour le groupe, mais pour le label !! Il existe encore des gens honnêtes qui ne foutent pas les promos directement sur Emule !!
Ceci étant dit, je me faisais une joie de chroniquer le dernier MASTERPLAN, Mark II, parce que j’adore ce groupe, mais aussi parce que j’en attendais beaucoup. Et je n’ai pas été déçu, c’est une franche réussite.
Là ou d’autres paraîtraient passéistes en balançant un Heavy-speed comme celui-ci, MASTERPLAN sonne tout simplement magique. Les mélodies sont imparables, les compos sont brillantes, la variété est là, enfin, c’est encore un maelström d’idées, d’arrangements subtils, d’enchaînements divins. Même sans Jorn, ou Uli, on reste sans voix.
Ne retenir qu’un ou deux titres est très difficile, même si « Lost And Gone » et « Keeps Me Burning » y semblent destinés. De vrais hits en puissance, imparables. Mais ne négligeons pas « Call The Gipsy » et son refrain entêtant, ou encore « Trust In You », portée par la sublime voix de Mike DiMEO. Les chœurs guerriers de « Masterplan », la bien nommée sont impressionnants d’efficacité, et le climat oppressant de « Heart Of Darkness » clôt l’album sur une note de lourdeur ne laissant que peu de répit.
Encore une fois, MASTERPLAN réussit là ou bien d’autres ont déjà échoué, HELLOWEEN et GAMMA RAY compris, n’en déplaise aux sieurs Weikath et Hansen, qui n’ont rien fait de bien convaincant depuis des lustres. L’ami Grapow leur donne une leçon d’humilité (ce qui dans le cas de Weikath ressemble fort à une mission impossible !), en soignant les chansons qu’il offre au public, avant de penser à la frime. Ce qui aboutit à des albums d’une rare élégance, comme ce MK II, qui domine les sphères du Heavy-speed d’au moins trois têtes. Servez vous en de leçon, et revenez nous voir avec de vraies mélodies, et pas seulement un recyclage de vieilles idées ou d’opportunisme à trois sous ! Tiens, cette chronique aussi est tronquée de trente secondes, des fois qu’elle soit publiée sur le net…
